How often do you have a Facial and what type?

I have an anti-ageing and anti-wrinkle Facial once a month. There are so many different type of Facials to have though, I would be interested to hear if anyone can recommend a particular type of Facial that seems to produce good results on them?

I get an aromatherapy facial every six weeks. I do feel there's a difference afterwards in how bright and refreshed my face looks and my skin feels amazing but the main benefit for me is the relaxation aspect and "me time".

Essentially they do a deep cleanse and exfoliation then apply a warm compress to my face that has essential oils on it. I can choose which oils I want the therapist to use or they can advise but I usually go for a mix of lemon for the brightening and lavender for the soothing aspect. Then a facial massage, moisturise etc.

I've had one facial in my life - a calming one for sensitive skin.
Wouldn't bother again. I couldn't detect any benefits but did end up with stinging eyes.
The experience of being pampered was pleasant though.

Where I am (not in the UK) it can all be narrowed to two types: with or without the steam. The ampoule near the end has active principles and it's what makes it anti-ageing, anti-wrinkles, anti-acne etc and it adds to the price, the facial itself is the same.
With the steam it takes longer and they remove pimples and black spots. They both come with a fancy massage and the warm compresses.
Without the steam I don't see much difference but with the steam I look very very pale (and yellow). Like the dirt's gone and the colour's gone with it. It's weird because I feel like my skin's clean before going in and then I realise it really wasn't.
I haven't done a facial in ages though (it's over 6 years-ish actually). Last time I went the girl pressed too much to clean a pore (or maybe remove a black spot?) and it burst capillaries at the top of my cheek. It was a bit swollen which went down but not completely. Now it looks like there's a permanent shadow there like people get when they don't sleep enough. Wherever you go: go to a good place and/or a good professional.
If you go on holiday to Spain Martiderm does the best ampoules.

I love facials. The last two I had I fell asleep after 10 minutes and slept for the rest of the hour.

Following as I'd love to have another one now the children are older and I might be able to stay awake!

I've had clarins facials before and generally aromatherapy ones. I won't have steam as I can't breathe.

I've had a few here and there, usually on spa days. Can't say I notice any difference except often breakout in spots afterward. Last one I had included dermaplaning which did get rid of all the small fine hairs and made my skin look quite pink and shiny and fresh. No-one commented though so it probably wasn't noticeable and I got sore where my glasses touched my skin for weeks after so wouldn't have that again.

I take my teenager to have a teen facial though every few months. They get out all the blackheads and clear the pores so I think it helps keep the acne under control. Plus it's short and much cheaper.

I don't think ever had one!

Interesting! When I did it with steam it took much longer.

@tinkerbellvspredator Did you notice any difference in the following months from the dermaplanning?

Pinkitydrinkity · 21/07/2023 20:03

I’ve been getting hydrafacials, love them!

BatshitCrazyWoman · 22/07/2023 05:47

I like Guinot facials - the Hydradermie ones. My skin always looks amazing after having one, and the effects last a good few weeks.

Sadly, I don't have enough time to get them regularly - the last one was September last year!

I have the Guinot facials about every six weeks and I do think it helps my skin.

I have just booked a microdermabrasion facial .. it's supposed to be deep cleansing and hydrating .. I can't wait

Hibiscrubbed · 22/07/2023 06:46

I have a treatment each week and alternate between a massage and a facial. Facials are usually focused on lifting and rejuvenation. I’ve tried just about everything and the facial massage and lymphatic drainage part of a facial seems to give the most ‘effect’.

I take collagen and drink a lot of water, which helps.

I had the Hydradermie Lift Deluxe recently. I was impressed.
