I know it will be hot but going with children and hoping to sightsee and do some activities. I am late 40s and would like to be cool! Any suggestions? TIA.

Anyone?

Cotton and linen fabrics. Two dresses, a pair of wide leg trousers, a pair of shorts. I’d go with white for the shorts and trousers. A long sleeve white linen or cotton shirt. A few tops/t-shirts to wear with the trousers or shorts. A pair of tan flat sandals and a pair of trainers for activities/walking.

No idea what your budget is but look in M&S, Arket, Aspiga, The White Company, ASOS, Next, Boden, etc. Most have their summer sales at the moment so a lot of sizes sold out, etc.

The most important thing for Carcassonne is flat comfy shoes for walking the old streets and walls, and a hat that shades your face!

Total generalisation but it generally works for any summer city trip: yes it’s hot but don’t dress like you’re going to the beach. So shorts would be more tailored than loose sporty styles, etc.

My standard suitcase suggestions would be:

Shorts x 2
T shirts x 3
short sleeve loose shirt x 1
dress x 2
Swimwear x 2
sun hat x 1
Flat sandals x 1
Trainers / comfy flat shoes x 1
cross body bag x 1
pants, bra, socks, etc

Pack with a complementary colour scheme and aim to have everything go with at least 2 other items. I usually go for navy, beige, cream or brown, and try and add colour via bag or sunglasses.

Oh, and have a look at Wears My Money for actual items if you need to buy stuff. She’s a blogger with some good thematic posts - Wears My Money. Also, I know she gets a lot of hate but Goop is usually worth a look for Euro holiday style ideas.

(This is all assuming that you are not going to be saddled with an enormous backpack full of sunscreen and kids stuff)

It's a steep walk up.to the old city so definitely comfortable shoes/trainers.

Brilliant, thank you!

Take the little train around the battlements, save your feet in the heat!

I prefer loose cotton/linen wide legtrousers in the heat, much cooler than shorts for me anyway. I found that the backs of my thighs often got stuck to chairs, bus/train seats (see above) in shorts, whereas trousers avoid that, and no chub rub either.
Dresses fine for evening but loose cool trousers are great in the daytime heat.

If you have time take the train to Limoux a town down the line, it has a fab market day (can't remember what day, but you can look it up), and wineries all over the place. A trip on the Canal du Midi is great too, but make sure your guide has English, as it is mostly French! Some lovely little independent shops to explore too. Lovely spot, enjoy.

Weather could do anything. Take comfortable walking shoes, umbrella and layers!

Are you planning to explore? Comfortable sandals, light dresses, loose trousers. Just normal holiday stuff
