Unique & Mint Velvet - are they good quality?

I have reached the stage in life where I think I look better in more simple styles.
I've recently found a stylist's page on Instagram, who pretty much embodies how I'd like to look. Following her, she seems to wear quite a lot of pieces from Uniqlo & Mint Velvet.

I've never bought from either. Are they good quality items and worth the price tag?
Mint Velvet has a white vest top for £25 but a very similar one in M&S is about £8. I'm just wondering if the quality is far superior, with better longevity. Or, would I be paying more simply because of the brand name?

Thanks in advance.

&Apologies, title should say Uniqlo (not Unique). That'll teach me to proof read!

I find mint velvet clothes wash well and in my opinion clothes in their price bracket in general do last better/longer than the bigger chains.

I've no experience of uniqlo.

Who’s the stylist op, sounds like my sort of thing.
I’m like you and look much better in simple styles. I have bought a few things from Mint Velvet and always got compliments whilst wearing them. Unfortunately I’ve not actually found them very long lasting, certainly no better than M & S and sometimes worse.
So I just keep them for special occasions as I can’t afford them for everyday wear.

Blossomtoes · 02/07/2023 13:24

I bought two MV sweaters the winter before last and they were very expensive mistakes, they’ve bobbled and worn very poorly. Uniqlo is the complete opposite.

Toseland · 02/07/2023 13:38

I have a few items from Mint Velvet and although they are more interesting they are not better quality than M&S and they are a lot more expensive.

GulesMeansRed · 02/07/2023 13:41

I have had lots of basics from Uniqlo and they’re great.

TheOGCCL · 02/07/2023 13:46

I think Mint Velvet is overpriced for what it is, whereas Uniqlo tend to have good quality and simple basics at fair prices.

SourDoughToast · 02/07/2023 13:48

My 2 mint velvet jumpers bobbled after a few washes and the jeans seem to expand when they're on so look much baggier than I wanted.

I've also got a few shirts and t shirts that are fine.

I find M&S and Uniqlo better quality tbh.

Vicliz24 · 02/07/2023 18:08

Uniqlo is excellent quality almost 100% MV is overpriced and not great quality in my experience.

Bloodysoapoperas · 02/07/2023 18:14

DS has bought trousers, T shirts and hoodies off Uniqlo.
All have lasted really well and are good quality. Remind me of GAP back in the day.

BHRK · 02/07/2023 18:17

My Mint Velvet stuff has lasted well but I put it on a gentle cycle and don’t tumble it.
I have the M&S vest you’re talking about and it’s great quality

SheWontSheCantShesLeft · 02/07/2023 18:18

Love Uniqlo. Never bought anything from MV

Shufflebumnessie · 02/07/2023 19:32

Thanks for all the replies. It looks like Uniqlo is a go and Mint Velvet is buy with caution!

@Fairyliz her name is Claire Lopez and her instagram is stylebyclairelopez.

@BHRK good to know the M&S vest is good quality. Thanks.

I have some MV pieces and they've lasted well but I wash them by hand or on gentle. It's also mainly summer stuff.
Uniqlo is great for basics especially for work.
I follow Claire Lopez on insta. She has a nice style but is a it's a bit too 'pretty' for me at times.
I really like buttonsandblazers, Emma Hill and also Lydia JaneThompson. Simple styling without too much fuss.

Shufflebumnessie · 02/07/2023 20:49

@astarsheis thanks for the recommendations. I've only just started following Claire and like what I've seen clothing wise in her more recent reels but she wears a lot more jewellery than I would feel comfortable in.
I'll have a look at the others you've mentioned.

Agree with others. If you want affordable quality Uniqlo is great. Mint Velvet has gone seriously downhill in recent years. I won't be buying from them again...

Enko · 02/07/2023 21:02

Im going to be the opposite to most on here. I dislike Uniqlo. I find it doesn't wash well and it looks shapeless. I do not understand the MN love for this shop. I have been happy with my Mint Velvet items wash well and last well.

Be interesting to hear what you think...LJT is much younger (could be my daughter, so could EH probably) but I think she gives some great styling advice. B&B and EH dress pretty much the same as I do.
