Hi
I'm on a tight budget and have an important event to attend where I'd like to smell lovely. What's the best smelling shower gel you've used that sticks around please? Or tips for ways to generally smell great
Thanks

I love Sanctuary Spa shower gel and body butter. Superdrug currently have them on bogof offer.

Body Shop original White Musk products great for layering fragrance too.

I think body cream hangs around longer, and freshly washed hair. I use the Lush American Cream conditioner, smells lovely.

Soap and glory

Nuxe - the smell lasts for ages, you can get the shower oil, body oil and perfume of it and normally gift sets on vinted - I just got a new neroli perfume for £15 rather than £42 new in shops.

The absolute longest lasting shower gel smell I've had is Gypsy Water by Byredo but it's too lingery for me and triggers my migraines, so I've had a v fragrant DS17 who can't believe he's been allowed to use the posh stuff

If you are really hard up can’t you pop into a department store beforehand and test a spray of a nice perfume.

Soap and glory

Agree. My dd uses this and it smells lovely

I like the Sanctuary stuff too but I recommend looking in TK Maxx for the refill pouches that cost less than a fiver.

Fenjal shower crème smells amazing, classic fragrance. Not too expensive. I get a lot of compliments when I use it.

Don’t use body wash or shower gel 🤷‍♀️

I find it doesn’t wash “properly” and while it smells ok to start it doesn’t last long and the BO starts to creep in where it doesn’t get rid of bacteria.

wash with proper soap. Then use a nice smelling body lotion or spritz of perfume.

I like the lime Original Source shower gel - nice and zingy

I've moved to bars of soap in net bags, the smell lingers nicely. L'occitane almond or the Nesti Dante ones are lovely and a good price.

If you're looking for a body wash or lotion that smells incredible and actually lasts all day—without breaking the bank—there are some amazing options out there.
If you like Snow Fairy, which is sweet and candy-like, you’ll probably enjoy:

  • Sol de Janeiro Brazilian 4 Play Shower Gel – Think warm caramel and pistachio. It’s sweet, creamy, and tropical.
  • Bath & Body Works Japanese Cherry Blossom – A more floral, feminine classic that never goes out of style.
  • Method Body Wash Pure Peace – Light rosewater scent, clean ingredients, and very affordable.
  • Nécessaire The Body Lotion – Fragrance-free, but perfect for layering your own scents over.
I recently came across a great article that lists some of the best smelling body washes and lotions—with scent descriptions, pros, and links to buy. Echoing the requirement for proper soap. (And not Dove, which isn’t soap.)

Go to TK Maxx. Buy a big bar of soap (and a new scrubby shower cloth) and look for a body oil or cream.

If possible send for samples of expensive perfume. (Les Senteurs or Bloom Perfumery are both good for these at very little cost.) Or borrow some from a friend / sibling / etc.

In addition, if your journey on the day will take you past a decent department store, check whether it sells anything like this:

which you could spray on (from the sample bottle) before your event.

Also, dry your washed clothes in the open air if you can, then after ironing, hang them somewhere near a few drops of your preferred essential oil.

Polish your shoes and air them outside, too.

Do you have a nail brush?
