Teal trousers and black top?

I bought teal ankle grazer trousers from Vinted and love them but struggling about what kind of top. I'm going for afternoon tea (not too fancy) next weekend and wondered if I'm better going for a black shirt/blouse or I've got a sleeveless plain black top. I'm not adventurous so the trousers alone are a big deal 😂

Rust or orange would look amazing.
Cream or white would go well.
Lilac could also work.
Do you have a photo?

Bananaman123 · 22/06/2023 20:12

I do like black with teal as shows off the teal more

midsomermurderess · 22/06/2023 20:13

Black is a bit deadening. I’d suggest burnt orange.

keyboardkat · 22/06/2023 20:50

A golden colour, pale pink, or navy are my choices for teal. Purple can look great with it also.

acheyfeet · 22/06/2023 20:57

White t shirt if you're unadventurous. Black is just such an anti-climax. Own the teal trousers, don't wear that apologetic black top with it. I would wear teal with green or red but the tone and shade would have to be similar to the teal base tone.

FayCarew · 22/06/2023 21:05

Burnt orange or mustard

WhereAreWeNow · 22/06/2023 23:10

I'm not very adventurous with colour either OP. I think I would go for white rather than black. I like the suggestion of pale pink too. I can see that would work.

BuffyTheCat · 23/06/2023 01:00

Depending on the shade of the teal (and your skin tone), a coral pink could work.

Beluowens · 23/06/2023 04:29

Could you post a pic of the trousers? They sound gorgeous by the way.

PumpkinSpicedTea · 23/06/2023 06:59

OK so I hate photos and excuse the mess but here's a couple of pics...

I totally get what you're all saying about black but... 😂

Also is this kimono a crazy idea?

Black will totally kill the teal.
How about a crisp white shirt?

LlynTegid · 23/06/2023 07:27

I think the Kimono works. Just plain black would be a no-no for me.

Motorina · 23/06/2023 07:40

The kimono is fab!

planthelpadvice · 23/06/2023 07:44

The plain black looks absolutely fine, bit it is a bit office-y. The kimono works colour-wise but I think the proportions are wrong although that could be angle of the picture. I agree with PP that cream/white would be better if you don't want to go for a bold colour, especially as it's summer.

The trousers look great on you BTW 🙂

Orangello · 23/06/2023 07:45

I dont think the kiono works at all. Black is fine, white for summer also pretty. Beige works too, or mushroom.

Thanks everyone. Taking all comments on board!

I was also worried about looking like office wear!

I think so. Like the trousers and blouse.

acheyfeet · 23/06/2023 08:26

Kimono does not work at all with the trousers. Black doesn't look good as expected.
The rusty blouse you posted could work but it will look like office wear or if you have a hairstyle that's all vintagey looking it could be a smart casual outfit. If your haircut is modern and all sharp it won't match as the outfit is like a slightly modernised 1950s work wear with that school teacher pussy bow blouse and the seam fold lines on the trousers and its material all combine to look like something you'd wear in a slightly formal setting.
I think a white shirt and sandals would make the teal trousers more casual.

midsomermurderess · 23/06/2023 08:46

I think a white shirt with those trousers would make it look like an office outfit. I like that blouse, the colour and style. I think it's the best match you've put up so far.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 23/06/2023 08:57

I'd pair those with a broderie style top or blouse. There's a lot around in the shops just now.

PumpkinSpicedTea · 23/06/2023 12:09

Thanks again everyone. Feel like I'm having an identity crisis now 😂
