Can acrylic nails be shortened easily - nail disaster

JustAnotherDayWorkingAtHome · 21/06/2023 22:15

Despite my recommendation not to DD went to get acrylic nails for her prom which is tomorrow. She’s now realised they are too long for work on Friday. Can they be easily shortened if she goes in tomorrow or do they need to come off completely. I have never had them done so no idea…she’s not got much time tomorrow so is this a long job?

How much shorter? They can be filed. Most acrylics are shaped after being filled or overlaid, using a file suitable for acrylic nails.

could she file them herself before work maybe?
Hard to say without seeing how long they are.

Dustmybroom · 21/06/2023 22:22

I clip mine with nail clippers and file. They’re just like normal nails but tougher so you need to give it some welly.

JustAnotherDayWorkingAtHome · 21/06/2023 22:22

prob 1-2mm so not loads

Are they definitely too long. They're very pretty

My DD had hers done and they're about twice as long

JustAnotherDayWorkingAtHome · 22/06/2023 07:35

They are pretty and agree not as long as some. She’s mainly worried about work.

What kind of industry does she work in?

SeeingSpots · 22/06/2023 08:01

You can just clip them and file them like normal nails although they are not very long at all to be honest, no longer than many people's normal nails, so I'd be surprised if she had to cut them. What job does she do?

Doggymummar · 22/06/2023 08:02

She can file them herself

JustAnotherDayWorkingAtHome · 22/06/2023 08:44

She is working in a PE department at a school....she should have thought about this. Thanks all.

What’s she worried about specifically? Acrylics are surprisingly tough, I used to have them (pre kid 🤣) and I work on a farm, only ever broke a nail once.

Okshacky · 22/06/2023 08:49

I’d just go to work withthem

ZeroFuchsGiven · 22/06/2023 08:49

They really are not that long, what is she worried about?

I'm not sure it would be a problem even in a PE department. The nails aren't that long, I'd be surprised if anyone was bothered about them.

Mommasgotabrandnewbag · 22/06/2023 08:51

1/2mm isn't going to make much difference.

Why would they be too long for work? I don't remember no long nails for PE being a thing.

Sugarplum97 · 22/06/2023 09:38

Can I ask what job she does? I do cleaning and I'd say mine our 4x that long, I'd maybe just go to work and see how she gets on could always take some clipers with her incase

Sugarplum97 · 22/06/2023 09:40

Sorry just seen, pe department. I'd just go with some clippers but I really don't think they'd be a problem

JustAnotherDayWorkingAtHome · 22/06/2023 09:45

She has gone in and they filed them down was really quick and they look good still and she is feeling much happier. I think she was probably worrying unduly.

A decent quality toe nail clippers will make this easy. They are stronger than the usual finger nail clippers
