Notting Hill garden party

Help! I’ve been invited to an evening party this weekend on a Notting Hill private garden. No idea what to wear but need something asap.
I think it will be fashionable dress code but not edgy. Any suggestions very welcome!
I’m a size 10, 5’7ish, age 39. I don’t want to show my stomach but happy for a sliver to peep out in a 2 piece for example.

Do you want to buy something new or decide between options in your wardrobe?

w10mum3 · 22/06/2023 11:23

Day or evening?

OhComeOnFFS · 22/06/2023 11:25

What's your budget?

w10mum3 · 22/06/2023 11:31

Oops. I see you specified evening. It won't be hugely formal - probably quite a few of the much-maligned-on-here floral midis with trainers. I wore this to one recently (in lavender).

w10mum3 where is that dress from please - its gorgeous

MaisieDobb · 22/06/2023 12:31

Thanks all! Budget I’m not fussed on. I’ve got a pair of wide legged white trousers I’ll probably wear with some gold Birkenstocks but keen for advice on a top that would work.

I like that dress w10mum but shirt dresses really don’t suit me at all unfortunately.

This is very pretty, but probably a bit too artsy/hippie for me. But definitely lovely!

I'd wear a jumpsuit. Is this with people you know or do t know?

MaisieDobb · 22/06/2023 16:31

They’re friends of some guests who are staying with us, so I don’t know the hosts to ask unfortunately.

I do love a jumpsuit but the only ones I have are this: https://www.meandem.com/super-wide-leg-halterneck-jumpsuit-belt-black

and a longer sleeve silk black one, neither of which are right for a summer party I think.

Super Wide-Leg Halterneck Jumpsuit + Belt | ME+EM

It might have made a summer debut, but that hasn't stopped ME+EM's Black Super Wide-Leg Halterneck Jumpsuit + Belt returning in a classic shade just in time for party season. Detailed with a satin panel around the waist as well as an optional belt, it...

No suggestions but if I were you I would err on the casual side. Garden gatherings tend to be very relaxed even in Notting Hill. Unless this is a particularly special event or these people are very fancy...

w10mum3 · 22/06/2023 16:46

Is it a communal garden party or a private garden? The communal ones tend to be quite casual, as it's for all the houses that back onto it plus guests, kids running in and out, etc. Sometimes they're organised around an event i.e. an opera company doing a performance, and people tend to have a smaller dinner or gathering before (or after), which might be a little dressier, but still pretty casual. I think the Me&Em jumpsuit is fine but a bit dressy.

@weemouse
Thank you! It's a Veronica Beard dress, but I feel like I've seen quite a few similar around this year.

MaisieDobb · 22/06/2023 16:50

It’s a communal garden but our friends who know the hosts are very fancy and always look super glamorous and groomed which is what is making me unsure of the dress code!

MaisieDobb · 22/06/2023 16:54

Also to clarify, it’s an evening drinks reception in the garden followed by dinner, no children invited.

@weemouse

I take that back - Have just checked the label - it's a Loveshackfancy

@MaisieDobb

Honestly, don't overthink it. You'll have a lovely time, people will be wearing all sorts. Just wear shoes that are good for standing around a garden in - lots of wedges this year. It's like everyone's borrowed Kate Middleton's feet.

Whataretheodds · 22/06/2023 20:04

Can you go halter/off shoulder/backless?

LadyHester · 22/06/2023 21:13

The uniform will be block print midi/maxi plus sandals.

Where is this from, please?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 22/06/2023 21:26

Ignore me. Just noticed you’ve already said.

w10mum3 · 22/06/2023 21:26

@RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie

It's by Loveshackfancy

MaisieDobb · 26/06/2023 14:19

For what it’s worth, it was one of the fanciest parties I have ever been to, fully catered, dancers performing, a band, about 20 waiters and the guests bedecked in very fashiony designer gear.
I wore a dress I already had which was fine but I was definitely on the casual end! I also drank way too much and had a brilliant time.
