I’m 36 years old still haven’t learnt my lesson

I’ve just decided, after watching a Brad Mondo video, to cut myself a fringe at 10pm.
Why?
It’s too late to be able to blow dry and style without waking the kids. I know it’ll probably look shit and I’ll have to spend the next 6 months growing it out.
Why have I still not learnt to never cut my own fringe or even better, that I look shit with a fringe?

What style/ beauty mistakes do you find yourself repeating?

I did exactly the same after a Brad Mondo video! I liked mine but have since had it fixed up by the hairdresser and like it more now.

How did you get on with styling yours?

JofraArchersFastestBall · 20/06/2023 16:59

I've just been to the hairdresser to have a proper haircut, after having a go myself a few weeks ago... embarrassing! The poor lad didn't know what to say.

NightOwlNotEarlyBird · 20/06/2023 19:41

I'm the opposite - I prefer cutting my own fringe than the hairdressers because it never looks quite rightwhen they do it.

GrinAndVomit · 20/06/2023 19:47

It’s ok. I really like one side but the other is a smidge too short. I did a decent job of the levelling them out but, as a basic millennial, my hair will not part down the middle after so long of side parting; which has resulted in unevenness.
I’m going to wait a month or two and try to even them up using my actual parting rather than my desired parting 🫣and if that doesn’t work it’ll be a case of growing them out before forgetting and doing it again in a couple of years I imagine.

Bloody Brad Mondo! He’s just too adorable. I’d fall for almost anything he said.

Who is Brad Mondo? Is he socially contagious? I would look, but my last bright hair idea made me look like a deposed medieval king so I'm wary of impulsive hair decisions now.

He’s a hairdresser with a YouTube channel. He mostly watches people doing home hair cuts and dyes and commentates and then explains how they could have done it better. He’s really funny. He’s really addictive. And you WILL end up cutting your own fringe.

I cut my own hair all the time and usually regret it 😂

GrinAndVomit · 20/06/2023 22:06

Also, every five years or so, I have a pamper session where I get eyelash extensions (and completely block out the fact they pull all my own lashes out) and gel nails, (which gives the an allergic reaction that make my nails very close to falling off).

I just don’t learn and I don’t know why?!?!?

Can we promise to never, ever, mention the Mumsnet haircut until my dying day?

What did I miss?

Nothing good, believe me.

Hundreds or possible thousands of women putting their hair up in a ponytail on the front of their heads and hacking away with scissors.

It was a sort of collective madness

Only if you take a vow that no matter how desperate you are for a hair cut, you will...

on pain of social death ...

never make a pony tail on top of your head just above where your fringe would be...

you will never hack said pony tail off, splay the ends out and keep cutting.

You will not end of with a beautiful layered hairstyle.

You could end up like Worzel gummidge's factory reject with wierd sticky out bits of hair, reminiscent of the haircut you gave your Sindy doll in 1977.

Just. Put. The. scissors. Down.

WelshNerd · 20/06/2023 22:45

I have a friend who has sworn a life oath to stop me cutting my fringe ever again.

GrinAndVomit · 20/06/2023 22:45

I needed that tough love. Thank you

This is what I do -

I think you’ve misinterpreted my post

I don’t need encouraging. I need an intervention
