Mum graduation dress

I need a dress for my son’s graduation. I’m fat so need it to be loose and floaty not clingy. Ideally, I’ll like it fitted/elasticated bust and then flow.

I enjoy looking at recommended dresses on here but they are generally so, so expensive.

There’s no point me giving a budget as it needs to be as inexpensive as possible.

Maybe, someone could recommend a dress make and I could search on vinted etc.

I don’t want to embarrass my son.

Thank you in advance.

I bought a hush dress for half the price for my daughters graduation last year on a fb site, never been worn. Honestly don’t worry about what you wear as there was a huge mixture. Matalan usually has some done nice bits at this time of year and you won’t embarrass him, enjoy his day

I wore a floaty dress and silk flowing jacket from Chesca - full price expensive seen the same in different colours on both vinted and ebay for a lot less!

Try Shein curve range, or Vinted?

@millymoo1202, you’re right, he’s a lovely boy and I know he won’t care what I’m wearing, just happy I’m there. I didn’t think of fb so that’s a good call. Thank you.

@SleepingisanArt, I haven’t heard of Chesca but having just looked on vinted, it definitely fits the bill of floaty, thank you.

@RubiesandRose, I’ve never bought anything from Shein, although I’m always getting discount codes so must have signed up some when in the past. I’ve always been worried about the quality and sizing, I don’t like the thought of my huge behind stretching the seems apart whilst I’m sat down! I really like the colour and style of that dress though, thank you.

@Anewuser SHEIN is surprisingly ok with sizing and quality is pretty good too in my experience. obviously not high end but better than you would expect. It's easy to do returns too.

Try the pretty dress company. They often have great sales, and are easily found on ebay.

Inanun2 · 17/06/2023 21:03

I recommend Scarlett & Jo

mumonthehill · 17/06/2023 21:04

I got one in Anthropologie, long, elastic under the bust with short sleeves. I got a jacket from vinted. I am size 18 so surprised it fitted but it is lovely. Have a good day, I am looking forward to Ds graduation!

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 17/06/2023 22:37

Lots of pretty dresses on Yours website.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 17/06/2023 22:38

Despite the ridiculous anti Seasalt thread ,don't rule them out as they have some really nice flattering dresses on there.

waltzingparrot · 17/06/2023 23:35

Wallis do a lot of floaty dresses, and often have a selection on sale.

Anewuser · 18/06/2023 08:49

@harriethoyle thanks for the suggestion, I’ll have a look now.

@Inanun2 I’d forgotten about Scarlett & Jo, so that’s a good shout, thanks.

@mumonthehill I don’t know Anthropologie so I’ll definitely check them out, enjoy your daughter’s graduation, I’m sure you’re as proud as I am.

@MrsPelligrinoPetrichor I’ll check out Yours and ignore haters so look at Seasalt, thank you.

@waltzingparrot Wallis used to be a favourite of mine, but I never go to shops now, so I never think of them online.
