South of France Outfits

I'm going to Monaco and then Nice /south of France for a week in July.

I'm a size 10 to 12 , 5ft 6ish, but kind of frumpy with love handles.

We will mostly be sightseeing and chilling in bars during the day.

Can you suggest some stylish but comfortable daytime outfits please ?

Pics or links would be great as I'm not up to date with fashion lingo :(

Cote d'Azur in July is v hot so I would just focus on being cool. I tend to wear short dresses or shorts and cotton tops but if that's not your style, how about linen trousers or maxi dresses in light floaty fabrics?
For bars I guess some nice jewellery and some really pretty sandals?

If it’s anything like last year the heat will be punishing.

Don’t even think of anything involving heavy denim or thick waistbands.

Other than that it’s hard to know where to start. The better dressed English people were in small plain linen sleeveless shirts and above knee length skirts. Others were in those vast yellow poplin dresses from, IIRC, Cos. (Fine if heat doesn’t turn you into a torrent of sweat.) The best dressed French women were in tiny, not jersey, tops and leather shorts or little suede skirts. Otherwise minimal, narrow sleeveless dresses with perhaps a little crocheted jacket over.

After despairing of my own unsuitable South of France wardrobe I bought a deep v neck cotton rib top from Mango and a cream cotton sleeveless dress from Zara, and wore them on repeat with the least cumbersome things in my suitcase.

Does anyone really take any notice of what visitors are wearing on holidays?

Anyway, comfort and chub rub avoidance is key for me! Light palazzo three quarter length are surprisingly cool to wear and no inner thigh redness either. They are (that famous MN word) floaty and teamed with a light loose linen mix/cotton loose top with statement jewellery does the trick. For me. No dresses, see chub rub above, and varicose veins too, so the light loose leg trousers do it fine for me.

Add a straw hat, big tote bag, great sunglasses and you will be like a native.

I'm going in August and so far I've bought a cool cotton jumpsuit from Next and planning on some linen wide leg trousers, linen tops and some thin long blouses or beach type cover up thingies.
Definitely a large hat and a neutral lightweight bag and sandals. I have white canvas Supergas which are so comfy so will be taking those too.
I'm not blessed with nice legs so a few maxi or midi dresses too. I'd love to have nice legs and wear shorts.

This is the jumpsuit, it's lovely and cool and airy for hot days.

I'd go for wafty dresses in cotton.

Oh and a perfect straw bag - if you've not got one, buy one at a street market there.

Definitely linen, especially a white linen shirt to wear open over a vest.

Any exciting plans for when you are there?

FineBerol · 23/07/2023 22:08

@keyboardkat You were totally right.. no one cares what you wear 😄

@WhatFreshHell1 We did a lot of day trips and had a great time thanks :)

The Rothschild Villa at Cap ferrat
Antibes
Cannes
Menton
Villefranche-sur-mer

Wore lots of linen and lived in shorts. Jewellery helped finish off outfits (never usually wear Jewelry)

tying hair up was a must as it was too hot to wear down/ avoided getting a sweaty neck!!

Ended up wearing heavenly feet slip on pumps as i got terrible blisters from some "comfy" sandals in the first 2 days!
