Making a jumpsuit - help me pick my fabric

I am taking inspiration from the gorgeous jumpsuits at Nancy Mac. I am making myself a jumpsuit for an upcoming outside wedding.

I am using this pattern https://shop.deer-and-doe.fr/en/sewing-patterns/122-sirocco-jumpsuit-pdf.html

I am planning the top in a patterned fabric and the trousers in a matching plain.

Which option do you like best:
option 1
Option 2
option 3.

Sirocco Jumpsuit

Mock-wrap knit jumpsuit with short set-in sleeves and pleated pants. Version A has tapered legs, version B is a romper.

Also the suggested fabric for the sirocco pattern is medium weight cotton/wool or Rayon jersey.

I get mine from wattle and slate (though currently closed but they do have a FB Buy and sell page. Little Legs Fabric, Kye and Men, Jelly, Poppy Bear, Caboodle, once upon a fabric.

Coming back to this for more advise. As recommended the jumpsuit will be one fabric and the jacket contrasting with a matching (to jumpsuit) trim.

My question now is should the trim on the jumpsuit top be jumpsuit matched fabric or jacket matching? (Hopefully the pictures make this make sense)

Jumpsuit matched definitely.

I've made a few Sirroco jumpsuits and I think you should stick with the same fabric rather than contrast.

You run the risk of it looking like a ditsy baby grow if you contrast and it is very baby grow like to wear as it is.

I've got one made in a brightly patterned dashwood cotton Jersey and I love it but I do have to be careful to pair it with grown up accessories.

Also I highly recommend the gutermann maraflex thread for sewing the sirocco. You need to be hot on making sure you back stich (first time I used maraflex I forgot and had to go back and repair a lot of holes where it had pulled loose) but it makes doing the details on the sirocco much easier!

I've been tempted to make the sirocco for a long time. I think I read somewhere that it really needs jersey with good recovery as you are pulling it on and off without any fastenings. Have you got samples of your fabric choices?

Glad you are going for all one fabric - I think that's going to look best.

To those afraid of sewing with Jersey - get yourselves a ballpoint needle, set your stitches to a tiny zig zag and give it a go! It's actually very forgiving to work with!

I have made this a couple of times with scuba fabric. Here's a picture of one. It's a nice make to do I love it, comfy to wear and it has pockets!!!

If I was making it with your choice of fabrics it would have to be option one.

Sorry forgot the picture of mine.

Ooooh @thoughtprovokingname that's excellent!

Finally finished. Jacket didn't work out - I totally stuffed up the sleeves beyond redemption. Pleased with the jumpsuit.

It looks fab!

I like to turn up the bottoms of my sirroccos at the moment.

Tessisme · 03/09/2023 22:17

Wow @MySewingUsername, I absolutely love that😊

IGoWalkingAfterMidnight · 03/09/2023 22:23

That looks lovely @MySewingUsername

And I've just seen @thoughtprovokingname 's pictures- I love that fabric and the way you've placed the print must have taken some work!

Edited for spelling

Option 3. The bees just give it an edge over the other florals.

I’ve made the Siricco a few times - it’s so straightforward and looks utterly classy! Your finished product looks awesome. If anyone else is long in the body like me, my tip is to lengthen the bodice and widen the waistband - it made such a difference, though I did have to chop off a lot of the leg as a consequence 😂
