Clothing you binned and miss What do you regret?

I had a lovely short sleeve, slightly fitted matte silver T-shirt from phase 8 about 2 million years ago. I was too young to buy from there - no clue why I did - but this was just perfect and I really miss it. I’ve no idea why I chucked it out.

Not binned but I gave my brother’s then girlfriend a pair of Russell & Bromley brown leather heeled clogs. When they broke up I really wanted to ask for them back 😂 I wish I still had them!

Frenchfancy · 08/06/2023 19:38

I was thinking about this the other day. I had a lovely white fitted top with pleats , I think it was Jasper Conran. I must have got rid during a purge when I had put on weight. Of course now I have lost (some) of the weight and really miss it.

Black wool Alexander McQueen bell bottoms (from 2000, so while he was alive). Wore them half to death, probably tried hand washing them, put on weight - not actually sure whether I threw them away or abandoned them in a damp basement … (Do people still say ‘I can’t even …’?)

There are more, but it’s all too sad. All my greatest regrets are beautiful clothes lost.

Jeansmeansheinz · 08/06/2023 21:26

I wish I had kept a great pair of bootleg jeans, which I ditched when skinny jeans came in. Also I Marie Kondo'd and chucked out a few things then regretted it.

HappiDaze · 08/06/2023 21:30

I had to ditch lovely clothes along the way because I moved and travelled around a lot. DD is very happy with what little I stored hoarded in the loft. She rummages around and wears quite a lot of my old pre DC clothes. God I was skinny then. She wishes I'd kept my 90's combat trousers and crop tops though

SaveMeFromForearms · 08/06/2023 21:33

Literally hundreds of pounds worth of clothes I got too fat for. Then lost a ton of weight. On the upside they would probably be too big now...

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 08/06/2023 21:36

Orange suede platform sandals, with chunky black rubber soles and wooden insole in about 1997. They were glorious.

faffadoodledo · 08/06/2023 21:37

Not my clothes, but my mum's. After she died I was in autopilot and wanted to move things on. In my haste I sent all kinds of treasures to charity shops, including Prada bags and vintage silk headscarves. Bonanza time for them! But I really regret not having kept a few things. Actually, more than regret; it quite upsets me that I didn't.

Whataretheodds · 08/06/2023 21:37

So many items. The perfect pair of wide legged black trousers.
A blue dress with pleated skirt.
A poncho my mum gave me.

hermioneee · 08/06/2023 21:43

The one I most miss was a simple lilac T-shirt with a swirly pattern at the front. Perfect colour, length and sleeves. I can't find a similar one anywhere. To be honest though I probably binned it as it was tatty.
Also a pair of high waist flared jeans. They were before high leg was 'in' and they were so flattering but I was too fashion conscious to know better. Damn my 25 year old self.

DuesToTheDirt · 08/06/2023 21:46

I had a lovely blue dress, not expensive or anything but it was very flattering and I got compliments every time I wore it. I lost a stone or so and then it just hung off me, so I got rid of it. Of course, I later put most of the weight back on and wished I still had the dress...

Assignedtoworryyourmother · 08/06/2023 21:50

I got too fat for a skirt so in a moment of utter madness charity bagged it. I'd have no chance of getting into it now, but I still miss it every time I go out.

DramaAlpaca · 08/06/2023 21:53

A pair of boots that split at the back, bought in the 80s. I threw them out, not realising I could've got them repaired. Also from the 80s a pair of court shoes in fuchsia pink that fit me perfectly. I regret dumping them so much, I might never have worn them again but I loved them so much.

scrivette · 08/06/2023 21:55

My combat trousers, I am really missing them although managed to find a similar pair in the shops this year that I am getting lots of wear out of.

Frenchyq25 · 08/06/2023 21:56

A pair of black wide leg trousers, never found a pair like them since.
Also a pair of calf length kitten heel boots, I wore them to death and have tried to find another pair but sadly never have.

Frenchyq25 · 08/06/2023 21:57

The heels I could have probably had resoled if I'd thought about it but chucked them instead .

PurpleAirGuitar · 08/06/2023 22:16

An apple green cardigan with big deep pink flowers and a bright blue silk shirt with long tails.

Floisme · 08/06/2023 22:21

I used to have quite a number of dresses and blouses with the 1940s CC41 label that I wore to death and generally treated very badly until they just fell apart. It never occurred to me that they were a piece of history, never mind that they'd be collectible one day. But mostly I just miss them because they were so damn lovely and I'll never be able to replace them.

DyslexicPoster · 08/06/2023 22:22

Some silver gray suede ankle boots from New Look. They was a bit of marmite purchase at first but they aged beautifully. I had them for years. Unfortunately they fell apart. Theybwent with everything. I always hunt something like them out every winter but nothing similar has ever turned up.

I really feel for you. Grief is all consuming and it’s easy to make hasty decisions. Make peace with it and forgive yourself 💕

LubaLuca · 08/06/2023 22:25

About 20 years ago, I had a fabulous pair of burgundy velvet Stan Smiths that got a bit tired looking and I wasn't sure how to clean them, so I put them in a charity bag 😫

Biggest regret of my life.

Shangrilalala · 08/06/2023 22:27

Classic Maxmara camel coat that my mother bought me one Christmas. I was probably far too young at the time, treated it badly and ultimately threw it away. I could cry…

milliemermaid · 09/06/2023 10:35

All of my original ‘Biba’ clothes 😥

Oneborneverydecade · 09/06/2023 23:10

About 6 years ago I gave a friend's daughter a Levi's jacket that my parents had bought me back from a trip to the US in the mid 90s. It was never going to fit me but with hindsight I should've saved it for my DD (5yo) to grow into
