Hello Sausages

Peri-menopause the blessed gift that keeps on giving… now means I no longer have a flat stomach but between the near constant bloating, weight gain etc I’m now a size 20. Ok - poor diet and lack of exercise may also have helped push me from a 16 to a 20 this last few years. I’m working on it…

I’ve changed from a pear shape to apple shape and no longer know what to wear.

My current dilemma is shorts. I hate my pasty chunky legs but I also want some shorts for walking/gardening and not melting as I don’t want to do another summer in jeans and get chub rub in skirts and dresses (have snag shorts but don’t want to wear them all the time!).

I’d prefer long shorts suggestions so nearer knees and some below knee suggestions but will give most things a go. Budget is up to £50

Im sorting out the pasty colouring by actually going out in the sun shine stuff and showing my legs to the world and worshipping at the alter of Dove gradual tan moisturiser.

Please help!

I feel your pain re peri & changing shape & size.

I have, and love, several pairs of 'denim boy shorts' from Next.

They're mid thigh rather than knee length, but I actually think that's a more flattering end point for them as I HATE my knees & feel like something ending just above them draws attention.

I'm a size 18/20, and am 5'3" but get lots of compliments on the shorts & have recommended them to friends of all shapes & sizes who now love them too.

The denim isn't too stiff, there's a bit of give in them, and the waist band isn't too tight.

P.S. I'm also of the opinion that if people don't like how my legs look they can avert their eyes. They're the only paid of legs I have & they've done me OK so far 😁

*pair 🙄

Have you tried slathering Mitchum deodorant on your thighs? It stops them chafing. For me anyway.

I bought some linen shorts from M&S at the start of the Summer. They since sold out. They have now re stocked but are shorter by about 2 or 3 inches which seems to make quite a difference - in a bad way.

How about cropped chino type trousers?

Another vote for the denim boy shorts from next. Love them and literally lived in them last summer.

I find the length more flattering than long shorts as PP said. I'm an 18.

Yes you’d be surprised how much more flattering short shorts are compared to longer ones. I don't have the greatest legs but I look much better in short shorts even though I only wear them in the garden.

My favourite pair are Dorothy Perkins from some time ago and M&S. I don’t think you need expensive, just a range to try on which suit you best.
