Skorts - why have they not become a summer staple?

I'm wondering why skorts (the shorts/skirts combo) has never really taken off as being a summer staple fashion item.

Anyone got any ideas?

I've seen quite a few. I think they're great but I have chunky thighs so I would only wear them on really hot days

DD wears them quite a bit.
She likes short flippy skirts and tends to buy ones with built in shorts

Most super short skirts are really skorts nowadays.

I have a pair for summer in khaki with the skirt over long shorts. Some of them do look a bit school PE skirt though if you get navy or black.

Many years ago I bought a Geoffrey Rogers skort which I loved it was pink,lilac and blue flowers skirt at the front and floppy shorts at the back . Loved it

Anybody seen any knee length ones?
