Hats to wear about town

I’ve never been a hat wearer but my scalp is beginning to burn in this sunny spell we are having! Can you please spam me with what you are wearing on your head? 😁

I need something practical to wear while pushing a pram, going to the shops, baby classes etc. it would be good if people could post actual links of stuff rather than just say ‘wear a cap’ 😂 I want to know exactly what people are wearing as I never see any women wearing hats wear I live!

Ooh I really like that fedora but I’m not sure I’ll be able to keep it on my head. I live in a seaside town north of the country so it’s quite a breezy place! Maybe they do stay on, my knowledge on hats is non existent 🤔

Yes, a bucket hat would make me think of the same thing 😂😂😂

Maybe I do need a baseball hat that doesn’t look like a delivery driver sort of hat. One I can wear with dresses, but I don’t think they exist!

The hat maker sweed in a little elastic at the back of the last straw hat I bought. I loop this under my hair (if I wear my hair open) or under a ponytail.

If it's windy I use a small claw clip or bobby pin to fasten the elastic loop to my hair.

I can send you a photo this evening, if you want.

I'm wearing similar to the H&M one (but mine was new look)

Carpediem15 · 07/06/2023 15:28

I wear hats all the time and love the Wallaroo Sydney - I have it in 4 colours. The brim stays down when it is windy unlike some other hats I have bought that fold up at the slightest breeze.

notawittyname1954 · 07/06/2023 15:28

I bought a broad brim hat from millets and it has a drawstring to hold it on under your chin. Folds up. Looks ok

TheCyclingGorilla · 07/06/2023 16:08

I like Tilly hats. They come in various sizes. Pricey but m6 first has lasted about 7 years so far. Not the trendiest, but reliable.

I add a cord with a toggle to our hats for an adjustable chin strap/hang the hat down your back when you don't want to wear it but don't want to lose it either. Not very elegant I admit, but no wading into the sea to get blown off hats back either! We are very fair, so baseball caps don't offer enough protection, but then wider brims catch the wind and get blown off.

Clarinet1 · 07/06/2023 20:01

I bought one from H&M this week which has quite a wide brim and taped to tie under your chin so it doesn’t blow off.

newtowelsplease · 07/06/2023 22:03

Does anyone who wears wallaroo know if they're stocked in shops anywhere? Can't see any info on their website and I'd be keen to try on before buying as my head is massive and hats rarely fit me

3luckystars · 07/06/2023 23:28

They are adjustable but I also think they have specific ones in large sizes.

Bought this last year and I love it

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07RT9DXTZ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Has a strap to keep it on in windy weather. I too have early macular degeneration.

Nothing helpful to add, I saw this thread in my daily MN email, but I REALLY wish I hadn't googled 'fedora' and seen this and this Paul Smith beauty.

I've just bought this which does make me feel a bit beachy/holiday but I'm 5 months pregnant and pushing a buggy, I just neee the sun off my head! https://www2.hm.com/en_gb/productpage.1131721001.html

You can also get hair/parting sun sprays which I've used on holiday before, I think it was just by garnier

Chain-detail straw hat - Light beige - Ladies | H&M GB

I always wear a hat. Summer I have a National Trust fold away hat, or more formal a straw hat with a bow. Winter I wear a woolen bobble hat. A full-face helmet on the motorcycle and when in the car it's a scarf tied over the hat to keep it from getting blown off my head!
DH has started to wear a Panama when the sun shines.

TheFlis12345 · 16/06/2023 21:15

I have a straw trilby, it keeps the sun off but the narrow rim means it doesn’t catch the wind like a fedora etc.

glowsticks · 18/06/2023 20:53

My sister sent me a hat from Australia from Plowsurf. It has a brim and a tie under the chin so it doesn’t fall off in the wind or in the sea. I love it.
I saw on instagram that their xs size fits kids.
