Sun hat for someone who doesn't suit sun hats!

I've tried all kinds. The only actual hays they suit me are a beanie in the winter. Ie, quite close fitting. I do think different people can carry off a hat differently. A trilby just looks silly, a cap wrong, floppy sunhat too cumbersome, a bucket hat makes me look about 12. I have a short bob so this affects things, no long flowing locks here!

I don’t generally suit sun hats at all. (Or hats generally)
But I needed one, so took a gamble with this : (added bonus that it rolls up, and was reduced)
Hat
I wear my hair up, so no flowing lock here either. And I was pleasantly surprised!
They have lots of other options too!

I know you said trilbys don’t suit you. But the flexible shape of this means it doesn’t look like normal trilbys (they also look daft on me)

Oh gosh, me too! I have a large head too, which doesn't help 😬.

I like solbari sun hats - really well made and practical

ArseMenagerie · 04/06/2023 13:53

They have a visor which might work?

I got a Scala from here, I hate hats normally but can't wear sun cream so needs must. Because it's so light it doesn't feel like I'm wearing it at all. Might be a big big for you so look at the bucket hat style.

I don't understand visors as your head will get burnt...mine would anyway, I have fine hair.
I think I prob need a smallish brim, but well fitted on my (pin) head. Big hats just overwhelm me. Almost like a boater brim, nothing that curls up or down.
I think.
I'm still not sure about the trilby, I've had one before look like I'm wearing someone elses hat 😁
I had a straw fedora which was sort of OK, but too big so wouldn't stay on well.
Dramatic statement hats aren't for me, which is why I love a beanie in the cold.

What about wearing a head scarf tied at the nape of your neck , rock the 70's look?

Yetisrus · 04/06/2023 16:20

I've got a very battered straw stetson, I got it from Fat Face many years ago. I only wear two hats, that and a fedora in winter.

Justkoko · 04/06/2023 17:10

I'm starting to think a boater or fedora may be the thing. Small flat brim, but not sure if the flat crown of a boater or shaped crown of a fedora is better. Cowboy type shaping just doesnt work for me. Its just too much for ne to carry off. I'm short and a statement hat is just overwhelming.

That said, it doesn't seem like a boater is something you ever see. I'll be feeling like I have to wear an Oxford striped jacket and white trews or something😆
