Why do I find it so hard to dress my body?

It's a weird one, but please bear with me.
I am in my 40's, 5'5 and slim, but a bit short waisted. Not sure if that makes a difference but probably not. I accept that I am not in a tough position and appreciate that many people have a worse time of it.

Still, I only realised recently that there's this ongoing thing in my life where I am never quite comfortable in my clothes. Even when they're technically comfortable! I don't like or feel right in dresses or skirts bar the rare occasion (wedding, etc), and prefer loose trousers or slim jeans. I like simple shapes and solid colours and love the clothes I buy.
But one way or another I end up uncomfortable.
I have a small waist but always feel things irritate me there, but if i go a size up i'm swamped. Most tshirts sit too long and look saggy and shapeless on me whether tucked or not. The most pretty thing can look make me look like Columbo easily. But I don't know why.
If I wear tight clothes I am not happy, I dont like the look much and dont like cling. But then the looser stuff makes me feel floppy. I do yoga, my posture ain't bad, I don't know what it is.

WTF is this? I am a regular shape, not really pear or hourglass, but what I'd call very average. I have a 25 waist and 32B chest. My proportions are just ordinary. Yet I see women of all ages, shapes and sizes looking comfy and great, whilst I never feel it. I sometimes wonder if some of it is sensorial/in my head, but I don't dislike myself at all. Just confused.
Anyone else have this?
