How to put together an outfit?

I'm early 40s and looking to regain a bit of style now that the kids are older. But... I just cannot seem to decide what to buy or from where or how to put an outfit together.(so I just put on jeans, t shirt and trainers at the moment Shock)

Are there any websites or influencers to follow to help me get going?

I like classic with a twist and I'm 5ft 7 and a size 10 if that helps. I work from home with the occasional meeting so I can be fairly flexible with what I choose.

Any shop suggestions would be helpful as I'm finding the high street uninspiring, but online is overwhelming as I don't know where to start 🤷‍♀️

Which styles most catch your eye? French chic? Helen Bonham Carter boho/steampunk?

rachll · 31/05/2023 16:31

@NeverendingCircus French chic would be closest to my style- occasionally with a twist...

Matching shoes to outfits is always tricky for me- especially since I'm a size7/8 and feel self conscious about my big feet! Any recommendations in this area also welcome!

This thread

https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/style_and_beauty/4753001-can-we-talk-about-clothing-brands-and-target-demographics?reply=124266319

culminates in a brilliant list of places to shop, each recommended by someone on the thread. Wide ranging discussion too.

The ‘Parisienne’ dressing threads on S&B are also excellent.

I agree there’s almost too much to process online. I try to take the odd look through the gazillions of posters I ostensibly follow on Insta, mainly because I invariably find a new designer / brand / shop. But I spend more time just browsing various online shops.

@CountryCousin Thank you for this! I was searching to see if there was already a suitable thread on S&B before I started this one!

Anyone who can recommend anyone else to follow on Insta? It's so nice when you can see an outfit on somebody and find out where they got it all from...
