cool summer trousers and dress recommendations

Ginola2345 · 31/05/2023 07:39

Please help I am wilting/melting here. I am tall (6ft and plus sized size 22) and due to health issues I am struggling to loose weight and my tummy sticks out. I am also menopausal

Please be kind and recommend me some cool to wear summer dresses (no polyester) and some lightweight cool to
wear summer trousers in a size 22 with at least a 34 inside leg (I have tried M&S and Next to no avail) everywhere’s tall ranges seem to stop at a 20 and in plus sizes (trousers aren’t long enough and dresses are either too short, polyester, the waist is too high and empire line is really unflattering on me or they are so voluminous I look like I am wearing a bell tent).

Thank you

H and m light weight summer trousers come up large so I think would fit you, although i will say they are not as long as you would like. What about long tall sally.

Ginola2345 · 31/05/2023 08:11

Thank you for replying I am really desperate. I will look at the dresses in H&M online and see if I can work out the sizing and dress length etc. I really wanted full length trousers for days when my legs need waxed. I have a couple of pairs of linen cropped trousers from Seasalt which I wear about the house and garden. Our H&M and Monsoon has both closed down so we have very few actual shops to look in and try anything on.

Long Tall Sally was taken over by Yours a few years ago. Whilst they do inclusive sizing (and a lot of polyester) and whilst the prices have came down so too has the quality and the sizing is absolutely all over the place and they have recently introduced a £1.99 restocking fee for everything you order and return.

The sizes in H and M can be odd if I am honest, I am an 18 and sometimes I am a large or xl. If you read the reviews it does help. I agree with LTS, it has gone down hill but I do sometimes get something in the sale. Worth also looking at next as they do a tall.

Ginola2345 · 31/05/2023 09:53

Thanks yes unfortunately 9 times out of 10
Next also stop at a 20 in tall. How tall
are you and have you had anything from LTS that you have been happy with recently? x

mumonthehill · 31/05/2023 10:25

I am just under 6 ft, i have had a few dresses from LTS which have been ok. But they are not the best quality. I also only buy in the sale which limits options!! Try Anthropologie too as they do plus sizes and their maxi dresses are long. Not cheap but very good quality.

Ginola2345 · 31/05/2023 12:55

Anyone else? I have recently ordered from M&S, Next and Boden and still haven’t found anything.

What I would really like are some flattering cool to wear midi, midaxi or maxi dresses in a natural fabric and some full length, coo, comfortable, flattering trousers in cotton or linen.

I am mid 50’s if that helps and size 22.

H&M really are good for plus sizes and their trousers and dresses are long. You will be an xl or an xxl. I have these trousers and they are very long on me at 5.7 but look great rolled.

junebirthdaygirl · 31/05/2023 16:07

Nobodys child have some lovely cotton dressed. They go up in sizes but not sure how the length would be. Definitely worth checking. I am looking longingly at a few at the moment.

MainliningChocolate · 31/05/2023 16:09

M&S do an XL length in selected trousers, online only, you may find some you like. I have a 36inch inside leg and they touch the floor on me.

DoverWight · 31/05/2023 18:00

Try this from asos www.asos.com/asos-curve/asos-design-curve-square-neck-midi-smock-sundress-in-black/prd/204103501?ctaref=we+recommend+grid_6&featureref1=we+recommend+pers it's roomy & very comfortable. I am 5'8 & it's long too.

Ginola2345 · 31/05/2023 20:52

Thank you @mumonthehill I will have a look at H&M.

Thanks@Zebracat they are exactly what I am looking for I will
order both sizes and 🤞 they are long enough.

Thanks @junebirthdaygirl I will check out Nobody’s Child.

Thanks@MainliningChocolate I have scoured M&S and I can’t see any trousers that look remotely long enough in a size 22 they only seem to go up to a 20 sadly.

Thanks@DoverWight not really keen on black in the heat and also both black and white colours as both those colours tend to drain me.

Seasalt make some of their dresses in a Tall fitting. I bought a couple of their plain linen dresses a few weeks ago (not usually keen on their prints) and was amazed that they were actually long enough in the body for me. But I’m not quite as tall as you.

Shelby1981 · 31/05/2023 22:45

These are pretty long tuclothing.sainsburys.co.uk/product/tuc141881542

BestIsWest · 31/05/2023 22:56

Have you tried Seasalt? Their tall range goes up to 26. I’ve got the Chapelle dress in Tall and it’s really long on me (5’10).
(Their tops are short in the body though).

I’ve got some M&S linen trousers in a 22 and they are too long for me really.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 31/05/2023 22:58

This might be too short for you, so apologies, but I have this dress in several colour ways and it is just perfect. The seersucker fabric is lovely on a hot day and it doesn’t even need ironing unless you are super fussy. It’s from Monki, goes up to XXL, and you can order via the H&M app as well as from Monki direct.

Ginola2345 · 01/06/2023 07:56

Thanks for the tip @Shelby1981 we have a local decent sized Sainsburys so I will
check these out the fabric will certainly be cool to wear.

@PermanentTemporary I really like that shift dress the colour (in the link), cut and fabric thanks. But unfortunately I have just looked and it doesn’t come any longer to hide my knees. I did actually manage to find one longer linen kaftan style dress from
Next which I have kept last week but its probably more holiday vibe than wearing every day or for nights out.

@Judystilldreamsofhorses I haven’t worn that style of dress before and it does look nice and cool and the fabric sounds ideal. My neighbour 15 years younger taller than average and about a slim size 12 had a similar style dress on last week and she told me she had got it from Stacy Soloman instyle but they don’t have anything nice left or in stock in my size. Whenever, I have tried those dresses on previously the waists are always too high (even on a tall fit dress by the time they have gone over my boobs and belly) and the length is always too short on me.

@BestIsWest I just ordered some things from Seasalt yesterday. I saw a lovely linen dress but it looked too short. Which style of linen dress or dresses did you order please and how long were they on you and did you size up or order your usual size?

There's a couple of FB groups...Pre loved LTS and LTS buy/sell/trade.
I've bought loads from there.
All sorts of brands.

BestIsWest · 01/06/2023 08:23

@Ginola2345
I have the Primary linen dress from Seasalt - it’s really lovely linen and about the same length on me as it is on the model.

BestIsWest · 01/06/2023 08:23

Usual size - it’s generous.

Ginola2345 · 01/06/2023 08:25

Thanks@AuntieMarys the problem is nowadays I find that Long Tall Sallys sizes fluctuate so much that unless I had previously owned a particular item and definitely knew it fitted in my size I would be reluctant to order.

I don’t mind paying the new LTS prices its just I have to order almost a dozen or more items to maybe end keeping just one item which I feel is wrong on a number of counts and I believe that now I will be charged a restocking fee of £1.99 per item. Its very difficult to decide what to order due to very inconsistent sizing, very poor quality items, very brief descriptions, lack of reviews since the new owners took over and trying to judge something based on either a photo of just the garment on its own, a photo of a garment on a model less than half my size sometimes in a very strange pose etc.

OP posts:
Ginola2345 · 01/06/2023 09:18

Thanks @BestIsWest sorry how tall are you. I am sure I tried that one last year or a one similar. But I think it was slightly shorter on me than the model and I wouldn’t want it any shorter.

OP posts:
BestIsWest · 01/06/2023 09:20

I’m 5’10 so perhaps it might be too short for you then.

declutteringmymind · 01/06/2023 11:19

Long talk sally.
