Work evening party - shall I wear dress or top and skinny jeans?

Iam attending a work party in a few weeks. Now, bear in mind I asm maternity leave and only had my baby 8 weeks ago, I can't complain about my pre-pregnancy shape regain because they has gone very well. BUT, I do still have a bit of a tummy and am a bit more love-handly than normal. So what shoud I wear?

Karen Millen Tea dress in silk. Very flattering and in a floral print BUT, would require continuous sucking in of stomach and even then not sure I can pass it off. Does me look really nice and curvy though and worn with vintage jewellry, black think tights and mary jane shoes would look nice.

Or

Black skinny jeans and a chiffon top from Ted Baker. The kind of a top that is flaoty so not fitted, with an elasticated but that sits below the waist, ballon sleeves, square neck. Has a green print and would require a sleeveless vest underneath that is long enough to ensure no wobbly tummy makes an appearance.

Sorry know pictures would be handy but have had these things a few months and they are no longer on website.

Also - anyone know where I can get a bandeau style fitted top in black that is longish (no matter of cost)

Think that covers it all!

personally I would go for the dress and just buy some magic knickers underneath, but I'm not sure in general how formally your colleagues dress....

what kind of company is it you work for?

orangina · 20/02/2008 15:33

magic knickers a must. you can get them from figleaves.com and they are by spanx (though of course maybe youj already knew that...)

orangina · 20/02/2008 15:34

(haha, typed magic knockers the first time.... they might be handy too! )

What sort of party? Where is it?

I'd wear jeans unless its formal (then I probably wouldn't go LOL).

Gemy · 20/02/2008 19:10

It's not black tie or anything, but there will be some people in jeans and stuff, and some really dresses up.

Thanks hoarse, no I did not know that they were by Spanx I will have a look at them tonight! And definatly wish I could buy some magic knockers from figleaves while I'm at it!

And there is a third option which I discovered by accident. It is a black short silk long sleeved shift dress from French Connection with little fabric flowers around the neck, hemline and around sleeve bottons. This with black tights looks good because you can't really focus on the tummy area. And I added a thik belt too and this looked great from the front - but from the side my tummy was more obvious where it had not been before.

You know what? It's strange with my body post and pre-pregnancy. Pre-pregnancy I an 8 but have quite a boyish figure (except for big boobs) so I wear styles that suit that shape (and always long for an hourglass figure!) but now for example, I have an hourglass figure (really defined waist ) so my old style clothes just don't look like they should. Do I keep this new shape and endure wearing more magic pants etc when needed, or slim back to my previous shape and loose these new curves!! Aaarrrrgh! Choices choices choices (family or career....slim or curvy....)

Dress, definitely. You can always buy some Tranny and Suze pants.
