Wedding guest outfit so I feel less frumpy/middle aged

I'm not far off fifty and have a younger colleagues evening wedding do to go to in July. I'm looking forward to it but feeling decidedly middle aged and frumpy. I'm 5'4 and a size 12-14, pear shaped/curvy. Struggle with heels but can manage wedges providing not too high. Generally dislike most things about my appearance ATM and realise a dress is not a magic wand but I'd really welcome some fashion advice. No strict budget.

Rather than a dress, how about a bright trouser suit, very in atm

Something like this suit but with a cream or even bright orange cami underneath.

I like the idea of that but had assumed a trouser suit wouldn't work for a short-ish pearshaped person? Worth trying?

Thanks for sharing. I tend to think trousers suits look good on the tall/long legged, which definitely isn't me. But maybe I need to try something different.

How do you feel about your arms, arse, waist, ankles, breasts?
What's your favourite colour to wear?

Emmaheather · 29/05/2023 23:26

Definitely wouldn't wear something sleeveless

Love green. Ankles fine, boobs ok but I am nearly 50 so not as perky as they once were! Not keen on the rest but trying to avoid hiding in a sack.

These are slightly random suggestions but I happened to see the first one in M&S the other day, and as a fellow short pear-shaped green-loving person I'd think about trying it on. I'm assuming that the Bardot sleeves would pull up
I love all Ghost's satin dresses - but satin is v unforgiving so you'd need shapewear.

I wore this to a wedding a couple of weeks ago, it’s a Coast dress but is a couple of years old. But this sort of style is flattering, it is a size 12, I am mid fifties and am also 5ft 4 and also curvy. Avoid anything tight across the tummy.
