I don't wear a lot of makeup, usually just an spf and occasionally tinted moisturiser, a powder for no shine and mascara.
Brows and eyeliner tattooed on so don't bother with that so much either.
All my makeup is old and I want to get some new and I've no clue where go start

My favourites are
Jane Iredale
Charlotte Tilbury
No7
Elf
Mua
Barry M

Tbh I would head to a no.7 counter at boots and start from there. You're new to make up so it will give you a chance to learn what colours and shades you like.

Worst advice ever! I can’t stand most of the No 7 range especially for makeup. Skincare it’s not too bad for.

No, go to a large Boots or department store, take your time with expensive brands and have a look at cheaper ones. Superdrug is great for loads of cheaper brands too. Revolution etc.

After many years of using expensive brands I have tried Collection, I think its great, the mascara is really good (same shape tube as lancome, which has made me wonder if its the same manufacturer) The Foundation goes on well, the blush is nice and the lipsticks do last on me, which many others just don't. All in all I'm very pleased with it.

Depends. I mean No7 is generally meh but annoyingly it's the only place I can get a true foundation match for my skin.

If you've got ££ hourglass powders are incredible.
Armani silk foundation is glorious. If they do your shade 🙄
Mascara it'll depend what you like. I like a big fat natural brush and others prefer the skinny silicone ones. Max Factor 2000 calorie is always a good bet. L'Oréal telescopic also good but I bought a £3.50 natural collection brown one and love it too. And a No17 matte light bronzers which is superb too, like hoola light but a fraction of the price.

So I'd say start with a really good foundation and splurge on that if necessary.

After that just have some fun. If you like very sheer/natural then glossier are fantastic but I think everyone has a mishmash of brands, including professional make up artists.

Surprised no one has mentioned Bobbi Brown, have they had their day? I still rate them but I'm not sure they are as popular as once we're.

I'm a recent convert to charlotte tilbury, especially the colour chameleon eye pencils.

Aside from that there's a mixture of Benefit, By Terry, Nars and hourglass on my make-up bag.

Bobbi Brown I did used to have a lot of as I worked less than 5 minutes from a department store with a BB counter there. I’ve had the powder bronzer, Hunter eyeliner (discontinued), red lipstick, shimmer bricks (never used and sold on eBay) and a few other bits from there. To be honest though they’re good, I’ve found other nicer brands.

Other brands I don’t rate are Bare Minerals, Benefit and Dior, apart from a few bits from the latter. One of Fenty foundations oxidised badly on me which was disappointing.

Skin:

Bobby Brown Face Base
Bondi Sands Facial SPF
NYX honey primer
Nars Tinted Moisturiser
Armani Luminous Silk Foundation (hate the smell though) or Chanel Vitalumiere (discontinued but possibly rebranded as something else now), Milani 2 in 1 foundation isn't bad either
Nars Orgasm Blush/ Milani baked blush
Chanel creme bronzer
Nars creamy concealer
Revolution highlighter - loads of shades, cheap enough and not glittery
Urban Decay setting spray/ NYX setting spray

Eyes:

Maybelline Lash Sensational- hands down beats every high end mascara I've tried, Benefit Rollerlash and Too Faced Better than Sex nearly as good.
Juvias Place eyeshadow palettes- great pay off, minimal fall out. I love Warrior.
NYX Microbrow brow pencil

Lips:

L:Oreal Paradise Balm in Lipstick
Mac lipsticks- I'm still a fan of these, I like Myth, Mehr, Morange and Chilli.

Wildlyboring · 28/05/2023 01:09

I don't wear all of those at once they're just products I rate and would repurchase. Armani foundation is lovely but I hate the smell.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 28/05/2023 14:21

I've just realised most of my( minimal) make up is Maybelline
I highly recommend the age rewind under eye concealer and 24 hour superstay double ended lip colours( colour and balm)
Wide range of colours from soft neutrals to vivid bright
Around £10 each

learieonthewildmoor · 28/05/2023 17:18

Nars for foundation and lipstick
Laura Mercier for cream eyeshadow sticks
BareMinerals gel cream for tinted moisturiser.
Stila Multistick for blush/bronzer.

toooldtobeamum · 30/05/2023 12:39

Thanks all
I went to Charlotte Tilbury in JL and got the uv primer, unisex healthy glow, airbrush brightening powder and some sort of highlighter!
I've spent all my make up wearing life wanting to be matte and shine free so not sure on adding shine!
I will report back when I have tried it all

Very interested to hear about the airbrush powder, considering a purchase

SwordBilledHummingbird · 30/05/2023 15:13

I use mostly Bobbi Brown with some Benefit and Stila.
