Ball dress boob situation advice

17yo dd has just bought her prom dress. It is STUNNING and she's thrilled.

But we need expert input on the boob situation.

The bodice of the dress is see-through black net with embroidery. Boobs are covered by two black bra insert triangles sewn into the dress. Dds boobs are bigger than the triangles and she's not comfortable showing side-boob.

The picture kind of shows what I mean, but IRL it seems less covered. Pic is of model, not dd.

Will tit tape solve this?
Should we unpick and add bigger boob triangles?
Is there another solution?

She could wear a black strapless bra, but the back of the dress is sheer too, and a bra strap does spoil the look a bit.

I would add a lining under the entire top bodice. It could be black and just blend with the triangles, or if you can remove the triangles, you may be able to choose a different color.

you could also leave the triangles in place and add a flesh toned lining to the bodice

What did she think she'd wear when she bought a dress with too much side boob on display? Genuine question if SHE had some idea of what she'd wear.

Maybe I'm not understanding, but is she happy with it all being so sheer, or would something like this underneath blend in- and also mean a bra would be worn? https://www.marksandspencer.com/silk-and-lace-trim-camisole/p/clp60270429#intid=pid_pg1pip40g4r7c4

Could the triangles be removed, and a lacy bra/strapless worn underneath? Also found this- but then saw the price! 😱https://laperla.com/underwired-bra-with-macrame-in-black/

I think she'd be happy with it sheer, but didn't realise that the triangles were too small to fully cover her boobs. Her ideal solution would be triangles that keep everything covered and locked in place.

Dress was mail order so only realised when it arrived.

I’m thinking something like the flesh colored fabric they use for dance and ice skating costumes to create the illusion of sheer.

WhereMyRosemaryGoes · 24/05/2023 00:30

Maybe she could try something like this in nude colour?

I think, actually, the problem is that it's all a bit unsupported. She'll feel more confident if she's a bit supported.

I’d take it to an alteration place and see what they suggest. DD also ordered her dress online and needed to have it professionally altered to fit her bust. She used tape for support instead of a bra and with the alterations, it looked fine (she’s a DD). I’m no seamstress and I’m not entirely sure what they did, tbh, it was definitely pulled in at the sides.

HamBone · 24/05/2023 02:41

I meant that my DD takes a DD cup, btw. Just realized that I’m using the same abbreviation. 🤣

greenspaces4peace · 24/05/2023 02:43

i'd buy a black bra and have it altered so the bra is built in, it may mean slightly thicker straps but not necessarily.

WhereMyRosemaryGoes · 24/05/2023 05:02

These are good ideas I hadn't considered.

If the bra is built in, does that mean there has to be a back bra strap?

I know the photo doesn't really show it, but the sheer bodice at the back looks really lovely. Especially on someone young and fit. It would be a shame to put a bra strap across it.

discuss this with a seamstress, it probably depends on the support she needs.

HamBone · 24/05/2023 13:22

The alterations cost $70 (we’re in the US), but the dress wasn’t cheap and it made all the difference…I dread to think how it would’ve looked if I’d tried to alter it. 🤣

What about the sticky backless bras? They come in nude or black. My daughter wore one with her prom dress and it worked great.
