Just that, I am someone who has never really bothered about skincare, beauty or any do this stuff really. And there are phases when I think I should and buy stuff but never see it through. Maybe I am lazy about it, always other things to do, can't be bothered and now always too tired after 2 DC under 5. But I want to start paying attention a little bit as I come close to 40. So if I can push myself to just do something for 5 mins a day or evening, what do you suggest? Probably a face wash, cleanse and some good moisturiser? I have dry skin, slightly uneven skin tone with pigmentation, chronic dark circles which if reduced can make a massive difference (but oh well). I recently bought Boots ingredients hyaluronic acid moisturiser and used it a few times albeit not regularly. Yet to see any massive difference. Any magic tips?

Thanks all!

Can I just put these things on top of one another, as in retinol, spf etc?

Sorry if it's a dumb question 🤷🏼‍♀️

You won’t see any real difference without consistency so if you’re not prepared to stick at it then you’d be fine just sticking to a nice hydrating moisturiser and saving your money.

If you can commit to it then I’d go with a hydrating cleanser for quick face wash, vitamin C serum, moisturiser with hyaluronic acid. Then SPF.

Add in a retinol couple times a week on the night, followed by a moisturiser.
As you have dry skin, try mixing retinol with your night cream to buffer it.

Once a week use an overnight hydrating mask (cream) in place of your night cream.

Sounds a lot but only actually 5 products and that’s pretty much a routine sorted.

Retinol on a night only, couple times a week to start and literally a pea size for your face and one for neck / décolletage.

Yes you can layer moisturiser on top of a serum. Then SPF on top

Interested & the watch function won't work this evening.

If you're not going to be consistent with spf, I wouldn't use retinol at all.

My 5 min routine would be:

Bioderma shower oil

AM
Cerave hydrating cleanser
Byoma gel moisturiser

PM
Cerave hydrating cleanser
MooGoo vitamin c serum

Gremlins101 · 22/05/2023 22:18

AM
I use miscellar water and cotton wool to clean face then SPF moisturiser

PM
I clean with cerave hydrating cleanser and alternate between a retinol cream from Laureal and Cerave moisturiser. Plus eye cream.

I saw on a documentary that retinol is the only ingredient worth it's salt when it comes to anti aging. But it's very important to use SPF as it can increase sun sensitivity.

The Cerave products are very affordable and gentle.

Spf daytime

Tret nighttime buffered with Nivea blue twice a week

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 22/05/2023 22:28

I really like the Inkey List products which are super-affordable, but my top tip is to think about timing. If you are knackered after an evening running about with small children, is there an earlier time you can do it instead of bedtime when it feels like a chore? If you have a partner could you eg leave them to clear up after dinner and do it then? Do it while the kids are in the bath?

I tend to do mine as soon as I get in from work rather than before bed - then it feels like taking the work day off!

Thank you @Grumpigal @Gremlins101 @stardust777 @cocksstrideintheevening for amazing advice and product recommendations! Appreciate if!

@Judystilldreamsofhorses yes you are absolutely right! Trying to find a time slot which will help me keep it consistent. Bath time is a good shout!

Everyone has mentioned SPF moisturiser. Recommendations for brands or products please? Is Cerave moisturiser with SPF? Will check their cleanser. Thanks 😊
