Teachers - what do you wear to a Summer interview?

I don't do suits. Or heels.

I'd wear one of my smarter dresses with tights and boots in the cooler weather, but I've got interviews coming up end of May/ beginning of June, when clothes are floppy and relaxed and casual and I don't know how to smarten myself up! My school/department is very relaxed but obviously this isn't the case everywhere and I know I need to make an effort!

Midi dress with a blazer over?

CountlesScreamingArgonauts · 21/05/2023 22:15

Thanks for the suggestion. 😊

I don't have either but will start looking around. What do you think about shoes? I'm guessing not trainers?!

A relaxed blazer over a dress with some ballet flats or something along those sorts of lines.

you don’t need to strip away your personality.

mnahmnah · 21/05/2023 22:20

I had senior leadership interviews last year and wore this with heels - thin enough not to be too hot, but smart enough without a blazer or jacket

@mnahmnah that dress is a lovely shape and I would wear something like that, but not with heels. And it avoids the need for a blazer, which I am not sure about.

I like ballet pumps on other people but have feet like bricks so they don't suit me.

Definitely not trainers.

I’ve got this. Wore to a formal dinner. It’s really a great shape.

Rosabellll · 22/05/2023 08:50

Absolutely not trainers!!

Loafers / womens brogues and a black pencil dress or the black dress PP posted?

You won't need a blazer if the dress is nice enough.

Cyclingmummy1 · 22/05/2023 16:27

Is it for a teaching job or leadership? My last three schools have expected everyone to wear a blazer at interview. What was the vibe when you looked around?

waltzingparrot · 22/05/2023 19:30

loafers?

CountlesScreamingArgonauts · 22/05/2023 19:49

@Cyclingmummy1 it's a teaching job, not leadership. The school seems fairly relaxed,

I am a bit horrified at the idea of spending loads of money on an entire outfut, including shoes, that I will never wear again , but I like the idea of a dress like the lipsy one, with brogues.

It’s available in navy in all sizes?

Theos · 22/05/2023 20:49

navy is trustworthy. Mate I can lend you my size 12 black? I’ll pop it in the post

Theos · 22/05/2023 20:51

Loafers, chinos, belt, chiffon blouse tucked in (with cami/t shirt for decency)

CountlesScreamingArgonauts · 22/05/2023 22:18

@Theos that's such a kind offer!

CountlesScreamingArgonauts · 22/05/2023 22:26

Navy is actually a great idea. More summery.
What do you think about these shoes?

Could I wear them with a navy midi dress?

OP posts:
PipsM · 22/05/2023 22:31

I wore some sparkly toms I got from a charity shop to an interview last week with a nice midaxi dress and I think I looked ok! I’m usually in converse from this time of year onwards. Maybe have a look on Vinted if it’s not immediate?

janefondofu · 22/05/2023 22:37

@Theos you don't seem like a reliable seller judging by your auto completed reviews😂

Cyclingmummy1 · 22/05/2023 23:04

@CountlesScreamingArgonauts that will be perfect then. I know what you mean about buying things and then not wearing them, we are supposed to have a blazer in school at all times in case we need to go to a meeting so I bought a cheap one from Gap which stays in my cupboard and I wheel out my decent one for open morning and parents evening.

Seriously. Message me and I’ll put it in the list. From a REALLY snoky house and smothered with pets. ;)
