Struggling to work out what to wear! Mix of friends and people I’ve never met, I’m size 16-18, big boobs and only 5ft so everything looks terrible! Any ideas…..???

If it’s on a warm day I’d go with maxi/midi dress and denim jacket
cooler day jeans and a nice top.
same as I’d wear out for daytime meal/drinks

HappiDaze · 16/05/2023 12:00

I saw someone your size and height yesterday in a maxi dress and denim jacket and commented to DD how lovely her outfit looked. It was a beige / black zebra 🦓 stripe dress

MarciaSaysANumber · 16/05/2023 12:15

Simply because it’s such a cliche, I would avoid the maxi and denim jacket look.

It really depends on the context surely, and your budget?

Evening event on the terrace of a Docklands penthouse? Relaxed event in family garden with children running around? Beach party?

How much do you want to spend?

MarciaSaysANumber · 16/05/2023 12:24

Wear with the belt!

Dizzywizz · 16/05/2023 12:34

Ahh love that dress @MarciaSaysANumber but bit too expensive, max price prob £30-40. And I was like ‘yes!’ To dress and denim jacket until you said that Marcia!! It’s just a casual bbq, nothing special

Perhaps you could manage a better photo, or a link?

I don’t care about cliché if it looks nice! I’m probably the wrong person to answer on style and beauty though

Same

Anything can be a cliche it's such stupid throwaway comment

Dress and denim jacket are normal standard items which I've worn when I feel like it for over 20 yrs

They're just clothes that someone decides are a bit more trendy at that moment in time, but no one cares because they've been wearing already anyway

HappiDaze · 16/05/2023 12:56

Wear what suits you and have fun.

Buy a green utility jacket (a denim jacket in green) to wear as that's very on trend at the moment to wear over what you choose.

It'll help break up your figure so will look more flattering.

It needs to hit your waist giving the illusion of height and it will slim you. It should not be long and go past your hips

Dizzywizz · 16/05/2023 12:59

Ok thanks @HappiDaze and @ChickpeaPie ! I’ve ordered the dresses linked above and will see how they are - if I don’t go with the green one, I’ll see if I can find a green utility jacket, good idea.

Alternative to the khaki dress?

A little over budget but would look good for much longer. Rolled up sleeves, unbuttoned neck, maybe a nicer belt if you have one, or open over some shorts?

No one’s saying a person shouldn’t wear the maxi dress and denim jacket they already have. But the OP wants to buy something new.

Really - this board become more pointless every day … Have I missed the memo where MNHQ states that ‘Style suggestions must only include items that every single reader already possesses - and no one must ever volunteer an opinion on any style of dress’?

Thanks @MarciaSaysANumber i have one almost exactly like that…feels a bit wintery though, and I think I might get a bit too hot in it.

Fair enough! Keep an eye on the Batsheva site (flowery dress) though, since you liked that one. They have pretty good sales.
