Size 16 what do you wear with a nice top on holiday?

Hi, I have found a few tops I really like for holidays that I would wear here with jeans. What do you wear on the bottom half on holiday? Not sure I could pull off shorts and long skirts just make me look really dumpy as i’m only 5ft 2. I had a look at some longer black shorts but just not sure that would work and then there’s the riding up! I tend to stick to dresses as it just makes it easier for holidays! Thanks

Cropped trousers? Wide leg trousers and linen trousers

Stretchy pencil skirt works for me as I'm hourglass shaped, comfy for holiday and my legs get a bit of sun.

Loose patterned trousers usually found in the ‘swimwear cover up’ type section

Lucy & yak trousers - think they’re the Freddie, I have blue and white patterned ones :)

Harem pants but not too crazy balloony ones.

I feel I am just useless at this kind of thing 🙈 real lack in confidence as I feel I am still not used to being this weight even though it’s been a few years now! Just feel everything looks a mess. I saw some black wide legged trousers that looked nice on the model 🤣 and a pair that are black and cuffed at the bottom but don’t look overly balloony! I bought myself some culottes for work this year and i wore both pairs about twice as when I caught sight of myself in the bathroom mirrors felt they made me look really short! Thanks for the suggestions, might order a few things and try them on at home.

I read about these stretchy crop trousers here on MN last year and decided to try a pair. I now have 6 pairs in various colours! They are the most comfortable trousers ever and I team them up with lots of pretty tops.

I go for the patterned cotton trousers. I got 2 pairs in matalan last year. I also wear thin trousers or linen trousers

ForTheSakeOfThePenguin · 15/05/2023 23:42

Just get some summer light jeans or linen cropped trousers.

I am a size 16 . H&M do some lovely cotton shorts that look dressy with wedges. I go for white with blue stripes or black & wear a nice top. Fake tan is also very good if going for shorts

AnotherDayAnotherUsernameForMe · 15/05/2023 23:50

Do you want to link the tops and perhaps we could offer up specific options?

Danikm151 · 15/05/2023 23:55

Cropped jeggings, 3/4 leggings. Knee length shorts. I’m the same height and ankle graze stuff are a nogo. Just below the knee is great.

TheChosenTwo · 15/05/2023 23:56

I have fluctuated wildly between sizes over the years, as a 16 I always stuck with dresses over the summer otherwise found my tops and bottoms met in the place I least wanted to draw attention to! I’m tall but even so I just looked more wide with the skirt and the top sitting together on my waist/hip area. Dresses were the way forwards, lovely, long and floaty or even short, but keeping one same colour/pattern/fabric made me feel more comfortable.

Somewhere hot ?
A knee length or just above the knee skirt in denim or a heavy cotton - ie, not floaty.
