Colour Me Beautiful or House of Colour

Really keen to get my colours done and I've been in touch with both CMB and HOC to enquire about an appointment. HOC is more expensive but not by a great deal and I'm not overly concerned about that but I wondered if anyone had advice on which is generally the best.

Reading older threads on here suggests HOC is better but I wondered if there was any more recent opinion please? I'm in the North West.

Thanks!

I did hoc in March and thought it was a great experience.

I can't compare it to Colour Me Beautiful. Maybe choose based on location and reviews, Facebook profiles etc of the consultant? I chose mine because she had some hoc awards and I liked the feel of her personality on the website. She had good availability but wasn't the closest - there were quite a lot of people near me.

You can also book a 15 minute free call to discuss what you hope to get from the session with hoc although I didn't do this.

I really felt it was money well spent, I was there for about 3 hours for my individual consultation and didn't feel rushed.

I think in the end it totally comes down to the consultant. HoC is seasonal, CMB is tonal, but the end result of ‘what colours suit me best’ probably won’t be that different. I had HoC and found it a total waste of money, learned nothing, consultant was completely disengaged and had no personalised advice at all. Some time later had it done by CMB - totally different experience and much more useful but my colour wallets really don’t differ that much. Both did a heavy sell on make up. I bought one lipstick from both, preferred the CMB one but honestly wouldn’t re-buy either - I prefer to choose different things from different brands. CMB consultants are trained by CMB but it’s no longer a franchise in the U.K., and I don’t know if that gives them more freedom to go off script. HoC I believe is a franchise.

I had quick consultations with both online....neither blew me away. They were both desperately trying to sell expensive packages, and neither looked especially well put together or stylish.

I've ended up booking in with an independent who comes recommended by a friend - I haven't seen her yet but I'm much more enthused by her than I was by either CMB or HOC.

Have you any independents locally?

My hoc consultant didn't do any kind of sell on make up or anything else and was well dressed. So I'd agree with pp re checking out the consultants; reviews etc.

Thanks for the replies, I will research independents but the HoC representative near me seems to be more stylish than the CMB one (in my humble opinion). Will see!

Did you end up going @cluefu ? I hope you had a good experience.
I thought I'd add I went and paid £££ for House of Colour, but I made a mistake of going to the nearest consultant, who was pretty clueless and couldn't even tell me my subseason!
I tried to challenge her on that but she dug her heels in, saying these are not important and I don't fit into any boxes.
I wish I had gone with CMB.
I think it really depends on the consultant. I went with HOC because everyone raving about them here!

I did HoC with a group of us - wasnt a huge change for me as I seemed to gravitate to the ‘right’ colours anyway, but a fun experience and defo helped some friends with what colours to wear.

If you are on Facebook have a look at Style Me Happy. Emily runs it and will do colour and shape analysis for you. There is also a very good group called Style Me Happy Community where you can get more help, tips and ticks once you have your analysis. Much cheaper than House of Colour etc and no hard sell.
