Any ideas please?

Initially he seemed happy to wear black trousers and a new shirt. Now he's claiming his friends have all been for suit fittings and he's missing out.

suit hire?
charity shop & seemstress to fit?

Oneborneverydecade · 13/05/2023 11:39

My Mum is a good seamstress tbf. He's a peacock so I'd be worried about finding a modern enough suit in a charity shop - I can start looking though

Isn't suit hire really pricey? We looked for him for a wedding last year and ruled it out

What's your budget? What's his style?

Have a good look on Vinted, eBay, charity shops, Facebook selling and see what you can find. Also have a look in your area for someone who can do tailoring. A seamstress isn't necessarily the right person to tailor a men's suit.

Also look at mainstream shops like M&S in the sale. Tailor anything you find!

Then he can go on about it being a vintage tailored suit if that works for him!

Whole "Prom" section on Asos for men

From my experience they'll all be wearing suits.

Will he not need a suit anyway? I would have thought that either for uni or for job interviews a suit is a good idea.

He's off to a basketball academy for A-levels. I'd be worried he's still growing and so a suit won't last. His style is sporty - he lives in (high-end) tracksuits - he doesn't seem to have a clue beyond that - despite knowing everything about everything usually.
I'll check out Vinted. There's 15 options in a 34" 38" on ASOS so will explore that further.
Thank you all for the replies, they're really helpful

Budget is as little as possible but around £60 I guess. I don't think he'd go for a bold jacket. Jacket sizing is a bit tricky, but we've time to order and send back if necessary

Also, have a wander around Primark, Next, M&S, Asda, Sainsbury's - all the usual suspects. It's often amazing what they have, but I guess the inside leg will be the issue? That's why a separate jacket could be easier - and bang on trend.

We had 3 suits in our charity shop yesterday, all bought for 16 year olds who had outgrown by 18! Second hand is a great option, also online

Oneborneverydecade · 13/05/2023 12:47

The inside leg is definitely the issue. He's probably moving into a 40" leg 😳

You'll could also consider contacting the basketball college and asking if they work with any specialist clothing companies for the students - they must see these issues every week, plus sports uniforms etc?

I would look at eBay and T K Maxx. Is he looking for a tux / dinner suit or just an ordinary suit?

QuickNameChangeForMeToday · 13/05/2023 23:32

I know a bit over budget (£75) for a 2 piece suit but Slaters were my go to for DS when he was still growing (now 6’4.5’’).
