What can I do with my hair?

I have a cowlick AND a double crown so styling my hair is an absolute fucking nightmare. My hairs quite long, mid back ish. And it's not actually that thin but looks thin and meh because there's not much I can do with it. Always wanted a full fringe but hairdressers refuse because of my cowlick I'll be constantly straightening it down. Is there anything else I can do?

I just got a fringes and then remembered I have a mild cowslixk three quarters of the way across my forehead! How did I forget!!! So the fringe won't sit down.

A month on and it's settling as a side fringe. Is that an option for you?

Have you layered hair?

CaughtTheKaty · 09/05/2023 10:01

@Anyfeckinusername at least I know the hairdressers aren't lying then lol! I was thinking about a side fringe, but the last time I had one I was about 13 and it looked awful just like a slither of hair going across my face. I have layers yeah which does make a slight improvement

That's what mine looks like, a slither of hair across my forehead 😂

CaughtTheKaty · 09/05/2023 10:25

@Anyfeckinusername bloody cowlicks. Maybe I'll have to give up on the idea or a fringe lol

Don't give up on the fringe! When mine gets longer it's lovely! Not there yet though gaaah

My hair sounds a bit like yours. Mine is fine but loads of it, prone to going wavy but can be straightened very easily. It can also look untidy very easily - it's not remotely "flaxen" quite the opposite while still being straight/wavy.

I've "lobbed' mine now - not mad about it but the condition is fab from chopping it up with a very cut into baseline at the bottom so it's nice and choppy but it now needs a lot more styling! I'll get some layers out back in next time

I really like the look of the butterfly cut. Bit of an 80s revival. Might that be an option. Loads of pics online.

@Anyfeckinusername I think the problem for me is I'm so bad/ lazy with my hair I kind of just want a hairstyle that looks good without me having to actually do anything lol which is, I'm pretty sure impossible

@Babymamamama I love that hairstyle and another one I was contemplating but my cowlick is right in the centre of my forehead so I'm not sure if it would work

Sounds like my hair! It’s blonde but starting to grey so looks even more untidy somehow!

Ive had the best cut I’ve had in a while atm though - I have a fringe ( gave up on the side fringe) which is about just below eyebrow level and parts in the middle and falls to each side. But has slight volume so not flat flat. But not uniformly. Sounds awful but actually works weirdly. Rest of hair is just below shoulder and I’m embracing it’s slight wave ( would look better shorter but given it never looks ok after being slept on I need it long enough to pull back into a ponytail).

Lemursandions · 09/05/2023 11:53

Should add I’m also very lazy on the styling front and have decided to accept this and go for a low maintenance cut!

CaughtTheKaty · 09/05/2023 13:09

@Lemursandions sounds a bit like the butterfly cut @Babymamamama mentioned! Do you have a cowlick also?

OP posts:

I do have a cowlick! Oddly the cowlick sort of works with how it’s falling ( the side fringe I attempted looked dreadful with the cowlick. I did have a full blunt front for a while ages ago but it took alot of product and inevitably looked worse as the day progressed!)

yes I googled butterfly and it is a bit. I have fine hair but lots of it do tend to avoid layers but the way mine naturally waves and is growing out kind of looks like butterfly layers!

Lemursandions · 09/05/2023 14:13

As an aside though I found the full heavy blunt fringe better with the cowlick than the side fringe

I have a full fringe and a cowlick,I find having it chipped into a lot works.. My hairdresser is a hero and trims it for every two weeks to make sure it always looks good.

I agree - go big or go home! The weight helps.

Yes I think this is the key! Regular fringe trims
