When you put your fake tan on…

how do you do it?

My process is this…
shower, exfoliate and shave the day before. Moisturise after.
The next day I shower, then apply tan without moisturising (apart from elbows, knees, wrists & ankles!), leave tan to develop then rinse off and moisturise.

My question is, do I really need that first shower before applying tan? My thinking is, I need to wash off the moisturiser from the day before… but do I actually need to? It’s all such a faff but I do look better with a slight tan.
So how do you do it?

I usually use Bondi sands Dark.

Yes you need to shower before a tan to remove skill oil and and deodrants

KirstenBlest · 08/05/2023 12:32

It helps if you don't put the fake tan on immediately after the shower.

LoobyDop · 08/05/2023 13:24

I find daily tanning lotions are ultimately less faff. The Bondi Sands one in the bright turquoise bottle is good, although you need to use quite a lot to get a good colour.

LoobyDop · 08/05/2023 13:25

Less faff because you don’t have to wash it off, so none of these when to shower dilemmas.

I find it goes badly if I put it on straight after a shower. A tanning mitt was a game changer - I mean I thought who would bother buying one of those. It definitely gives a better result. I tend to use gradual tanner.

Doggymummar · 08/05/2023 13:38

I shower shave scrub moisturise apply tan mine is St Tropez mousse with mitt. Wait 8 hours and shower off the indicator colour. Moisturise.

It's definitely not a 2 day process for me. I shower and exfoliate well to scrub off any old tan and then reapply new tan with a tanning mitt after my shower.

I have found that having TWO tanning mitts works best for me, one to apply and a dry one to buff all over when the tan is nearly dry. I rarely get any streaks. I use the Bondi Sands in the black bottle with the gold tan, or Skinny Tan & Tone. I always shower first, then apply when my skin is dry. As PP said above, you need to remove the oil from your skin. I only moisturise my feet, elbows and knees before applying.

It does seem mental that it’s a two day process 😆
sometimes I just don’t have the time nor inclination so I end up just staying pale and sad looking which doesn’t do much for my confidence.

I do have the Bondi sands gradual lotion and use it sometimes when I just can’t be arsed. But it does take a couple of applications for a good colour. Plus I hate the smell!

I do like Shivawn - shower, exfoliate old tan off shave etc then moisturise dry bits lightly and apply tan. Usually sleep in it overnight and shower off in the morning. Sometimes use gradual tan but if I want quite a decent medium tan quickly just use either Bellamianta medium mousse tan or st tropez.
