Skincare products skin reaction advice

I got some new skincare products after reading an article about the best things to use in terms of ingredients. The products are:

  • La Roche pose effaclar micro exfoliant (for the salicylic acid)
  • L’Oréal revitalift vitamin C + salicylic acid serum for day time

then for night

  • L’Oréal revitalift pure retinol serum
  • Lancôme Renergie nuit multi glow (for ceramides)

I’m still using the same cleansing lotion and day moisturiser with spf as had plenty left.

Been using these for a couple of days and today my face is quite red as if I’ve been out in the sun. It feels a bit hot too.

Does anyone know if anything in particular in the above would cause this? Is it normal when adding things like this to skincare routine and it will subside or is it more likely an allergy and I’ll need to stop using all of them then start using them more gradually to find out which one it is?

I do have quite sensitive skin but thought these were all okay, have used other products of these brands before with no problems.

I’d say it probably the retinol serum.

It’s never a good idea to add lots of new things at once. I would stop everything. Go back to cleanse, moisture and spf until your skin has settled. You may well have damaged your skin barrier and it will need time (and possible something with ceramides to repair), then add products one at a time. Leave a few weeks between each product to see which one reacts.

Retinol should be started very slowly. Probably a low percentage and only twice a week to start, then build up.

Also, if you are using vitamin c and retinol, you really need a good facial spf - you can’t rely on one in a moisturiser.

That's a lot of potentially aggravating products at once with the salycilic acids, vit c and the retinol. My skin would fall off after a couple of days of that combination!

I'd stop using all of them, let your skin settle and then add them back in slowly one at a time. Be kind to your skin!

Thank you for the replies, I will go back to the usual routine then introduce gradually.

Two S.Acid products
Vitamin c
And Retinol.

That's very agrivating I would introduce one at a time very slowly
