Help me find a maternity dress for a "black tie" wedding please

Attending a wedding in Australia at the end of March. I'll be 5 months pregnant, so not huge.

The invite just arrived and says "black tie" so my ideas for lovely comfy loose trousers with fancy top have gone out the window, along with any nice dresses which aren't floor length. (I spoke to the bride re hiring suit for DH when we get there and she mentioned "long dresses" for the ladies, so I really can't get away with cocktail length.)

Am still carrying weight from last year's pregnancy (gagh!), so can't have anything too clingy. Something like this Isabella Oliver maxi dress would be perfect I think, but it's only available in white. Feck.

Will be away for a month, so hiring is not an option. Don't mind spending a couple of hundred quid, in order not to feel like a hideous frump.

Any ideas? Am in North London. Am going to go to Push Maternity in Islington for a nosey, as I remember their windows used to have lovely stuff. Website down atm...

Any other ideas?

Should add that I don't think I should wear black to a wedding. Doesn't seem right.

Difficult to tell from the picture, but this looks as though it might be full length. Just jersey though, so not sure if dressy enough? Also possibly clingy.

if you want to look glam for a lot less than your 200 quid, how about this?

fym · 17/02/2008 22:32

what about this dress with this shrug???

gigglewitch · 17/02/2008 22:34

I also like this one which you could wear with a pink or cream shrug (so don't need maternity) and some nice shoes

gigglewitch · 17/02/2008 22:34

I lurve that one fym, it is soooo glam

MrsBadger · 17/02/2008 22:35

Push will sort you right out, esp with a nice fat budget like that

worth checking ebay though as so many are only worn once

too flowery?
add some bling (I suggest silver shoes too)

JackieNo · 17/02/2008 22:35

Something like this with a shrug?

collision · 17/02/2008 22:36

Jackie.....the red ruffle dress is nice from that website.

Disenchanted · 17/02/2008 22:36

ooooh this!! love the blue!!

or this?

this is gorgeous!

fym · 17/02/2008 22:37

sorry - it is black BUT if it's black tie I think black is OK for a wedding....

Also you could find a coloured shrug

or
this top
with
long black skirt

bit more versatile - will look posh with some great jewellery and shoes / scarf then you can dress it down for everyday wear afterwards. I personally wouldn't spend a lot on something you can only wear once....

gigglewitch · 17/02/2008 22:37

BTW - I got lovely stuff for weddings from Red Herring maternity which is in Debenhams. They had fashionable but well cut stuff, really flattering. Why do you always get invited to weddings when you're pg??

twelveyeargap · 17/02/2008 22:39

I ordered a jersey maxi dress from Next and jersey just doesn't seem dressy enough. The colour is sort of flat on jersey, so that concerned me about the one from BM. I could order it and try, though.

I love the column dress from IO, but black... I think I'll put it on my "reserve" list and if I can't find something in colour, I could add coloured accessories.

Boobs also still huge since last baby, so when I tried nice empire line maxi dresses in non-maternity they didn't fit the boobs and when I went up a couple of sizes they just looked silly and baggy everywhere else.

I wore this in brown to a wedding with some cream maternity trousers. I dressed it up then wore it to work afterwards....

twelveyeargap · 17/02/2008 22:44

Yup, the sparkly one could work and the charcoal. Thanks.

Will do a frenzy of ordering and trying.

No advice on the dress but didn't know you were pregnant again so congrats on that!
