What do you wear day to day?

As in what do you find yourself reaching for most often, even if you have plenty other things? Are you mostly a jeans person, or do you prefer tees to blouses, etc?

I look best in leggings or slimmer bottoms so am not as interested in the wide trends, but that makes it more difficult to locate tops that are longer length than boxy or cropped nowadays.
I have only this week noticed that I always seem to pull out the same things again and again, even though in my mind I thought I was more eclectic.
So my daily stuff (wfh, slightly rural) tends to be leggings, big jumper, and in summer lightweight slim jeans or shorts with plain cotton tees. I dont have much variation but am happy enough with that and can pull out something fancy (one dress!) for a rare, smart occasion. Am curious about other people, are you one for variety or do you have a sort of fixed favourite (such as long dresses and so on)?

I am thinking here of the stuff you wear outside of work, really. Just day to day preferences.

I been put off buying the m&s trousers, as I had a black and a navy pair from a couple of seasons ago, and they faded with the first wash, and I do use liquid for colours, they were only £17.50 but still I felt I didn't want to wear them anymore

LittleWhiteMoth · 05/05/2023 21:20

I wonder what tops people are wearing with the M&S wide legs too? Do you show the bum part off? Grin

I bought the shell top the model wears in the advert

FiftyNotNifty · 05/05/2023 21:57

I am an 8 or 10 depending on the shop, and I ordered those m&s trousers in an 8....DEFINITELY not an 8 in those! Sincerely hope the 10 are more flattering when they arrive...clingy in ALL the wrong places.

ladygindiva · 05/05/2023 22:10

Dungarees or jeans ( mom style or 501s) and converse / trainers, with a nice top and a cardy.

Purplecatshopaholic · 05/05/2023 22:30

I wear dresses most of the time. They are the lowest maintenance thing you can wear I think. Sling it on and there you are! You can dress them up or down with jewellery and either heels or flats, boots or shoes…l just love dresses.

Iamclearlyamug · 05/05/2023 22:34

I live in leggings and vest tops with trainers mostly - even in winter.

If I'm going somewhere slightly fancier I might swap the leggings for skinny jeans and boots.

My favourite saying when looking round clothes shops is "corrr bet that's comfy" 🤣🤣

you sounds a bit like me, although I opt for slim rather than skinny. When it's slightly fancy I'll even take my Birks off Grin.

come to think of it now I have no fancy shoes or anything that might be appropriate for a wedding, etc. I did attend a funeral last winter wearing Doc Flora boots but I would have no idea during summer. Perhaps a trip to M&S for some sparkly slip ons!

They look nice

I have some black ones from a couple of years ago from M&S and the elastic top kept twisting so it wasn't flat

happytobemrsg · 06/05/2023 16:46

I pretty much only wear wide leg trousers with a tucked in or cropped jumper. As it gets warmer I swap out the jumpers for cropped linen shirts & the trousers get lighter. Trousers are either plain or have crazy patterns. I can’t wear tight fitting trousers at the moment so I’ve really had to rethink what I can wear.

LittleWhiteMoth · 06/05/2023 18:18

I look awful in linen trousers, especially wide ones. I have a pair that taper which are ok, but the styles rarely work on me. It isn't my body, it seems like it's just my 'look' that doesn't fit it.

Linen is everywhere right now, definitely having a moment!

I tried to create a capsule wardrobe after my body totally changed shape having my son, and I'm on maternity leave now so tend to rotate between leggings, wide leg dungarees and slim fit jeans, always with a breastfeeding friendly top (so usually a button down shirt or similar). Shoes I have comfy chunky white trainers, Birkenstocks, Josef Seibel Doc Martens knock offs and some converse. Also have a cropped jacket, trenchcoat and parka for outer layers! I have 3 knitted jumpers, one thin knit and one chunky knit cardigan as well, plus a few midi dresses but I haven't got those out yet as it's not quite warm enough

Frieda12 · 08/05/2023 22:50

Week days I wear a uniform for work so I thought i’d go wild at the weekends with my extensive wardrobe but that hasn’t happened!! All black with comfort a priority

Tarragon123 · 08/05/2023 23:02

Agreed! Dresses are so easy to throw on.

i don’t own a pair of jeans as I just don’t suit them

StillMedusa · 08/05/2023 23:09

Daily.. mostly jeans or jeggings with uniqlo thin airism under shirt and a linen tunic/ big shirt over. Ariat boots walking the dog then either Skechers or Dr Martens depending on the weather.

Warmer days, the ubiquitous Breton striped top... so many in my wardrobe, and cropped jeans/jeggins . (I work in school so practical)

Hot days... 'saggy nappy' proper harem pants and a loose linen top or vest top and Birkies! I don't wear shorts often as I have sparrow legs and high risk for skin cancer but do break out the shorty denim dungarees now and again :)

I love coats and have way too many... the big padded long one (uniqlo) Barbours for middling weather, a few short tweed blazers, the Rab padded short jacket, a denim jacket, a variety of rain and shower jackets. I have a coat problem Grin

Zhougzhoug · 08/05/2023 23:15

today: went out in cropped dungarees with a fine black merino jumper underneath, wrong trainers, anorak, looked truly terrible. Came home and changed into supposed comfies (JW Anderson x Uniqlo running leggings and a black cashmere COS sweater) and looked loads better. Although the jumper does have some crumbs on.

yesterday: black short sleeved Monki jumpsuit, headscarf. Plumo cardi for when it gets cold. Sounds chic-er than it looks. Nike running shoes

saturday: another Monki jumpsuit, this time long sleeved navy with bird print. Yellow full length COS mac. Reasonably boxfresh white Adidas trainers

friday: hungover. I just wore gym clothes all day. Black Arket wool coat which I walked into a freshly painted doorframe, now smells of white spirit.

thursday: erm? Oh yeah, Navy jumpsuit, Suicoke sandals

wednesday: novelty Monki tiger print jumpsuit, Yellow COS mac, Adidas trainers (this outfit got the most compliments of the week)

tuesday: Black COS dress with a denim COS shirt dress layered over the top. Nike running shoes

Monday: LF Markey oversized navy sweater dress, Marimekko leggings which I later discovered have a hole in the butt, black Air Force Ones

I love wearing a total variety - I'll think of my last weeks outfits,

Saturday - long sleeve short denim shirt dress from Zara with white converse

Sunday - black leggings, doc martens, oversized beige t shirt, tan zip hoody and oversized leather jacket

Monday - Spanx leather pants, doc martens again , stone coloured cami with a thin beige off the shoulder jumper worn with a sleeveless charcoal berghaus long puffer jacket

Tuesday - black ck joggers with black high top converse and a white and gold Nike sweatshirt it's loose and fairly cropped but I wear a black vest top underneath.

Wednesday- office day so green wide leg pants from Zara, a white t shirt with green and gold motif from h&m and white and gold stan smith trainers, beige trench coat from new look

Thursday - black and white leggings, black vest top, black loose cropped t shirt, black and white Nike trainers, blue and black north face puffer jacket

Today - pale blue denim high waisted mom jeans with thin gold belt, white converse, lemon scoop neck button top, white fitted sports jacket, gold accessories

I used to wear a uniform of same stuff all the time but was always interested in fashion/peoples dress styles and since losing weight I get such an amount of enjoyment putting things together.

Ohh that sounds amazing… I love your style. Are you quite tall and thin? I feel to short to wear what you’ve mentioned but maybe this could be the encouragement i need.

echt · 08/05/2023 23:35

I'm retired and have got rid of all but my dressiest working clothes (might pick up some supply work).

It being near winter in Melbourne I wear the layers -merino/wool everyone on MN talked about when the the utility bills were going up in the UK, and also because I walk the dog twice daily and need warming, comfy clothes.
I upgraded the raincoat with Protected Species (two!!) coats, and brighten up up the warm layers with a Uniqlo fluffy zip-up jacket in deep red.

I've managed to get out of the gym clothes routine by keeping a full kit in the car and always always changing.

I'm also a fan of the black AirForce and mentally excuse them from "gym clothes" in my style rules. Grin

Same here. Dresses are so much easier and versatile.

Zipps · 09/05/2023 00:07

Whatever I fancy. Usually look at the weather forecast for footwear/jacket decisions. So that could be my starting point.
Tend to wear allsorts at the moment as the weather is all over the place - dresses, jeans, leather jeggings, skirts with long sleeve t-shirts, t-shirts, thin jumpers.
Apart from two occasion dresses and a pair of heels nothing gets saved for best. Everything in my wardrobe are my favourite things even the basics, nothing meh allowed. I can get lots of outfit combinations without having to give it much thought because of the colours and styles I have.

Notanothernewname · 09/05/2023 06:31

Jeans, tshirt and jumper or cardigan. Summer I might put a skirt or dress on but it's usually shorts (denim or chino) and a nice floaty top or a cotton strappy top. I work from home 4 days a week so no need to dress up.

Work is usually slightly smarter jeans or a mini skirt and tights in winter and a dress or summery pencil skirt in summer.

Imamumgetmeoutofhere · 09/05/2023 10:17

Always a dress, knee length and v neck. Leggings if it's cold, cycling shorts underneath if it's not. Same for cardigan. Boots if it's cold, flip flops if not. Hair is always down and straight and I wear the same diamond studs in my ears, Apple Watch and my wedding & engagement ring.

Nothing ever changes in my clothes
