"smart casual" footwear help!

Going to a function where dress code is smart casual in a few weeks. I only ever wear trainers (or chunky sandals but the weather isn't looking too good). Can I get away with clean smart mostly white trainers?

What are you wearing apart from shoes? (Smart trousers?) And how chunky are the trainers? I'd say fine if they're more canvas shoe type, probably not if they're chunky sports style. Clean black would be less noticeable than clean white, unless your trousers are white.

Probably wearing a long loose dress. The trainers I was thinking of are Nike Air Max...!

A long dress and air max would look incredibly cool. Not precisely smart casual but I think you could get away with it.
