Struggling with what to wear over the top! Help!

Anyone else struggle to put together outfits with an extra layer like a cardigan/jacket? I have lots of clothes but really struggle with that extra bit. Pulling it together.

I feel the cold and live in Scotland! So it’s essential.

Any tips? Must buys? Thanks.

A long trench seems to go with almost anything. I'm in Scotland too and have been wearing mine for the past wee while.

Thanks. Do you wear a beige one? It’s not something I’ve ever worn. Maybe I should take a look.

Depends what you're wearing it with. What sort of outfits are we talking about?

TruthRevolution · 04/05/2023 07:21

@ohfibonacci yes, it's an ankle length and a pale beige colour.

ohfibonacci · 04/05/2023 07:29

Thanks. Does it not get muddy at that length? With rain splash? That’s one of my issues with paler things!

@thedevilinablackdress casual stuff. I’m better with smart. Just everyday wear. Jeans and a t shirt or skirt and a t shirt. Those are the outfits I struggle with to stay warm enough in but not too hot!

I struggle with this too and feel the cold. I wore a summer dress yesterday on its own as it was so hot in my office. It was amazing! So freeing. But not practical everyday.

Today I'm in a giant, men's jumper 😂. Send help

TruthRevolution · 04/05/2023 07:39

It's been OK so far. You could also go for a darker colour, olive or similar.

I feel the cold so I always wear layers. I have a couple of cashmere jumpers in colours that go with most of my clothes. I also have a trench coat, but mine is calf length and black. And dozens of scarves in different colours and thicknesses because I hate having a cold neck, even in spring/summer. When it gets warm I wear a blazer/jacket instead of the trench coat. Again, I have a couple of these in colours that go with most of my clothes.

I think if you’re careful with the colours you buy, you can get layers to work with almost everything.

thedevilinablackdress · 04/05/2023 07:59

There is no one solution - Buffy has good suggestions. Different coats and jackets suit different outfits and weather. Layers is always a good idea.

I tend to go for layers under.
I wear Uniqlo heattech under everything

ohfibonacci · 04/05/2023 13:21

Thanks. Yes I do wear Heatteach but it’s hard when you get too hot as you can’t really take off a later!

I think my issue is I need to actually plan my outfits including outer layers more. I tend to plan the first layer and then grab the warmer layer as I run out of the door! But I don’t look very put together.

I also feel the cold so I have a trench coat and also some shorter cotton jackets that I can wear with summer dresses as well as jeans. It has to be really warm before I dare leave the house without some outer layer

i am currently considering buying the Will jacket from Sezane for this very reason. There are similar jackets available from other brands.
