Hi All,

Me and my friend have booked to go to Amsterdam next weekend as the flights/accom were so cheap and is somewhere we haven’t been before.

Has anybody been and can help me with outfits! We will be doing sightseeing in the day so will take trainers/Birkenstocks (if the weather is ok) but what about night time? We will probably go for dinner and to bars but do people dress up in Amsterdam? Will we look silly in heels?

We went to a couple of nice restaurants in Amsterdam in October. Can't recall anyone getting particularly dressed up. .

The Dutch are pretty casual dressers in my experience.

I went with 4 other women and although we wore dresses none of us were especially dressed up. I didn’t notice anyone around us being dressed glam, it was pretty casual all round really. I went with my sister about 5 years ago and we wore trainers the whole week, I don’t recall feeling out of place at all.
it’s a great city, have a wonderful time. I ate so well, I don’t know why I had thought the food would be rubbish but I could not have been more wrong, everything we ate was brilliant! I’m jealous of your upcoming trip 😂

Perfect thanks, we went to Berlin last year and nobody dressed up at all in bars/clubs so I had a feeling it would be a similar vibe. Good to know I can leave the heels at home!

It's very casual!

We went to some super flash restaurants and I honestly don't recall anyone looking that amazing. Admittedly on one night that was because it was tipping with rain and everyone was arriving looking like drowned rats.

No heels, wear outfits that you can wear from day to night

WorkinMumsince4ever · 03/05/2023 20:32

Agree, no heels. The streets are not suitable at all! Have lots of fun.

Nobody wears heels in Amsterdam unless going to a wedding, basically because everyone cycles when they go out, and the vibe is very casual.
