I was quite inspired by the arty threads recently showing women in great colourful different sorts of cloths.

I'm pretty informal but like nice colours and natural fabrics. I was thinking recently my clothes have become quite dreary would like to change that up and have a few more bohemian things. I was at a place yesterday that sold rather expensive but sort of arty things in nice natural fabric. I was tempted but nothing fitted very well. A lot of the sizing was all over the place so didn't give much of an indication of whether they might fit well or not. There were smaller things that were enormous and large sizes that didn't fit in certain areas. A lot of things were cut just really wrong for me. A lot of the top halves were long between the head and bust and seemed to crunkle up and gather there in an awkward way. There was often far too much width and material sitting awkwardly. The waists were wide or non-existant. I did feel like they didn't justify the price for the lack of cut and shaping. The things that were voluminous on the top often didn't fit me across the hips! I'm a bit overweight but a sort of pear/cello shape and can look really nice in things if they fit me well. I have quite good shoulders and go in a lot at the waist and have a massive bum! So tend to look good in more fitted tops and swishy bottoms! No pleats or gathers over the hips please! It's not just the look of the clothes I was trying that was wrong, but the feel is pretty uncomfortable when they fit so awkwardly. Can you suggest a few outlets that do more arty and bohemian style clothes without the awkward cuts? Things that accomodate busts but have more fitted waists and don't grip the hips in a vice tend to look better on me.

I said waists are good but if they fit really well that might be less of an issue. But as I said the things I was trying were very awkward on the top half and therefore didn't hang properly waist or no waist.

Free People all the way. And charity shops.

Thanks everyone. The dress is nice but very unfitted so on a bust I think it might splay out like a merry go round. Free People interesting. I'll check out Joe Browns.

Aspiga might be worth a look.

Another thread mentions Farm Rio. They do lovely colourful designs, but spendy.
