What to wear to the beach when it’s not that warm

We’ve booked a few days at the coast(uk) for end of may. Now when I booked it I envisioned lovely summery days on the beach, but unless we have a serious heatwave over the next couple weeks, the weather is still abit shit. Assuming it’s going to be dry (please god!) what would you wear for a day out to the beach with kids when the temp is 15/16? Will probably go paddling with the kids but doubt it will be nice enough to go fully in the sea

Shorts and a nice thick sweatshirt probably. I'd also probably wear some kind of scarf because I find that keeps you quite warm if it's a bit breezy. Basically an outfit that keeps your legs and feet free for paddling without having to strip off or hoik anything up, but keeps your top half nice and warm.

Those hiking trousers with zip off legs are useful for beach trips where there may or may not be paddling. And layers, lots of layers, because the weather can be four-seasons-in-one-day at this time of year.

Once I got into the bag that we use to carry our boogie boards and zipped myself into it. Best windbreak ever.
looked like a twat obviously but fuck me I was toasty warm.

I'd advise a sweatshirt, sturdy waterproof jacket, long trousers and Wellington boots.
