Hair cut & colour before holiday

Mentioned to my colleague that my hair really needs doing before I go on holiday next week and I’m struggling to fit it in, she said you shouldn’t have your hair done just before holiday anyway as a) a bit of extra length is easier for tying up when wet/hot/CBA and b) beach and sun won’t do the colour any good. Her advice was leave it as is and have it done when you get back to freshen it up and improve the condition

Any thoughts on this? Do you have your hair done for holiday, or actively avoid?

Do you want to have loads of photos where you have visible greys/roots? Or not. That is what it boils down to.

I would get it cut but not coloured personally- especially if going somewhere sunny with a pool

If it's bleached you can't go in the pool or it will go green

My colour due three days before our holiday ( get highlights every 8weeks).
I'm going to wait until I get back and buy a root spray for my holidays.

Root spray, brilliant idea. Where do I buy it from ?

Root spray?? Tell! Although I have a balayage/root drag so not such an issue

I always get my hair done before a holiday, never had any issues

Mojitomogul · 02/05/2023 20:29

If going somewhere hot, I would definitely wait. The sun really bleaches the colour if it's freshly done, and the sea/chlorine will affect the colour and dryness. If you do get it done, wet your hair and apply conditioner before going in the pool and sea as it stops the hair absorbing the water/chlorine.

I left my balance u til I got home. I found I needed a good trim as the sun/sand/pool dried out the ends a bit as they were bleached. I say leave it if you have balayage with no major roots but maybe go for a trim if you’re in need

universityhelp · 02/05/2023 20:33

Agree just go with a trim if you need it - if your hair is dark with greys showing maybe use a vegetable type dye like Clairol colour gloss up.

Is it a hot beach holiday? If it is, unless you're prepared to keep your hair covered during the day for the duration of your trip, leave it as is and get it coloured on your return.

My colourist told me this a few years ago when I was contemplating the same.
