Teen prom footwear?

Technically it’s a Prep Leavers Ball not a prom, but you get my drift. They are 13, so a tricky age for clothes/shoes. I already posted on here about outfits, and she’s chosen a lovely dark blue jumpsuit, which looks amazing on her.

She asked me what she should wear on her feet; I said trainers. It’s what they all wear, isn’t it? She pulled a face and doesn’t want to wear trainers. But what, then? I’ve scrolled through a few pages of flat sandals and they all look a bit… frumpy (sorry to use that word, I don’t know how else to describe it really) or childish. Heels are obviously out.

Why are heels out? They don't have to be sky high. At my DD's 16yo prom last year about half were in silver or gold mostly mid-heel sandals, a few in white trainers.

CrapBucket · 30/04/2023 07:55

13 is pretty different to 16, I would alter your title so it doesn’t say prom, or prepare for loads of replies saying heels…

Phineyj · 30/04/2023 07:57

Ballet flats in a funky colour?

Circethemagician · 30/04/2023 07:58

DD wore hi-tops to her Prom. They were brand new ones which matched her dress. She just couldn’t get on with heels. She said she was glad as she could dance without her feet hurting, and she said load of the girls who wore heels ended up taking them off and going bare foot!

Ballet flats? In sparkly/silver/gold/a contrasting bright colour.... and then get accessories to match.....(but I'm old and like comfort and practicality for dancing!!Smile)

Good point, will ask.

Dd won’t even entertain the idea of a low heel. I’d have been willing to consider that.

I will suggest ballet flats.

By high top, do you mean like Converse? Sorry I’m a bit clueless with trainer terminology!

Ok she’s turned her nose up at high tops. Ballet flats only acceptable if they have an ankle strap because ‘they will fall off’.

She has suggested clogs.

TitoMojito · 30/04/2023 08:54

Ankle boots? I know they have a heel but they aren't heels if you get me. I pretty much lived in ankle boots when I was 13.

Stripycatz · 30/04/2023 08:54

What does she want?

TitoMojito · 30/04/2023 08:55

Or gladiator sandals if she wants to be sure they don't fall off?

CornishGem1975 · 30/04/2023 08:55

At 13 mine would have wore a flat strappy sandal (Quiz do some silver ones) or a ballet flat.

QuickNameChangeForMeToday · 30/04/2023 08:58

Do you have a link/pic of the jumpsuit?

QuickNameChangeForMeToday · 30/04/2023 09:01

Also what size is she in a shoe. DD is almost 12 and has small feet (1.5) so hard to gauge sometimes.

ExtremelyDetermined · 30/04/2023 09:07

I'd have thought flat/strappy/gladiator sandals if she doesn't want heels. I haven't seen teenage girl in ballet flats for a long time.

VenusClapTrap · 30/04/2023 09:18

This is the jumpsuit. She’s a size 5. I thought gladiator sandals was a good suggestion but she’s not keen on those either. Ankle boots too hot for June.

This has all got her thinking though, and she’s moved from not having a clue at all, to deciding she definitely wants clogs, so all very helpful, thank you.

We are now looking at Lotta from Stockholm. Not much choice in the low heel ones though, so if anyone can suggest anywhere else…

As well made as they are it’s a lot of money for a 13yr olds notion of clogs

QuickNameChangeForMeToday · 30/04/2023 13:53

ASOS have a few pairs

Thanks, I hadn’t looked at ASOS. I don’t really mind spending the money because I rather like them so I’ll have them if she doesn’t wear them! At the moment we are the same size, which is quite handy.

That’s a bonus. I am still upset every time I recall buying DS a pair of Comes de Garçon converse and he went up a size the following month 🫣.

DontMakeMeShushYou · 30/04/2023 14:36

Look at Light in the Box.

DD got her prom shoes from there. You can choose the shoe style and then choose heel style and heel height. DD's were proper dance shoes with suede soles.

They do take 6 or so weeks to arrive though and we found they came up small.

Posted before reading the whole thread so probably not much use to the OP
