What do you wear to a graduation ceremony?

I don't wear dresses (in fact the only time I've worn a dress in the last 30 years was my wedding dress which maybe a little OTT!!)

DS has said all his friends Mums will be wearing them so, so will I.

I don't want to spend a lot - I'm 5'9" size 12/14 and my legs are my best bits.

oh and it's in late July so (hopefully) warm.

Any ideas please?

I’m now a veteran of 3 graduations and wore dresses to two of them. The most recent, however, I wore linen wide leg trousers. Don’t wear a dress if you don’t want to and don’t feel comfortable!

I wore a top and wide leg trousers to my dh graduation last year. You will see all sorts of dress really. You don't have to wear a dress.

I wore wide leg, cropped linen-cotton trousers, a 1960s jacket and flat, patent lace up shoes. I think most women were probably in dresses but by no means all and I felt appropriately dressed. So no need at all for a dress if you don't want to (although if your legs are your best feature, why not?).

I’m a lecturer, and plenty of female guest wear smart trousers to our graduations. I’d say the vibe is generally evening wedding do.

Our graduating students wear black and white (mainly black skirt/trousers and white top, guys in suits or kilts) so attendees tend to avoid that.

I went to one last year I saw people ranging from the grundgy hippy look (tie died everything un-ironed patchouli and sweat scented people) joggers and jeans to posh frocks and suits I believe there was someone wandering around in a cricket jumper too (it was really REALLY HOT) it was baffling you will honestly fit in whatever
