Really bad haircut - what to do?

I had a mobile hairdresser over this morning who I haven't used before but found them on a local Facebook page.

I only needed a wet cut. Hairdresser turned up promptly at the allocated time and started. I have very long hair and asked for 3 inches off. My daughter was sat in the front room, if relevant , but was as good as gold and playing with her toys quietly on the sofa by herself. No element of being distracted by either me or her. When finished, I paid her and off she went. Must have been in and out within 15 minutes.

Now I know this is my fault but I didn't look in the mirror. To me, I only needed a trim, no restyling, so I paid her and she'd zoomed off within 20 seconds. I checked my hair after and it's hideous. Absolutely hideous. She's lobbed off at least 6 inches (I wish I was exaggerating) and both sides are completely uneven. There's a good 2 inches difference.

I've had a good cry (first world problems I know, but it really does look appalling) and then messaged her with a picture. She's offered to come back and correct it but I honestly don't trust the woman! I've now booked into a salon this afternoon, which is going to cost 3x the price to fix.

I know it's only hair and it'll grow back but I've never had hair this short in my whole adult life. Just looking for a bit of solidarity from anyone else who's ever had a butchered hair cut or any advice going forward?

I'm sorry OP, a bad haircut is so upsetting. So annoying that it's so uneven as well as being too short....she can't be a qualified hairdresser if she isn't able to do a straight cut? Sounds like you would have done a better job lopping off a few inches yourself. Are you going to leave a review on the Facebook page?

This is what we're dealing with.

😱 That is so bad, thank god you’re off to a salon to have it corrected. She surely can’t be a qualified hairdresser! I’d post on the Facebook page you found her on if you’re feeling brave so she can’t con any more hair victims.

That's awful, sorry op but it looks like she's
Only cut one side of your hair!

DemonicCaveMaggot · 24/04/2023 15:25

It does look like she got distracted and only cut one side. Or she has some fixation with long, asymmetric cuts (grasping at straws here).

I had a sort of Cleopatra bob when I was 18, straight fringe and straight around just above my shoulders. I went to a hairdresser for the first time on my own just for a trim. She started at one side and by the time she got to the other it was under my ear. She then cut my fringe so it was about one inch long. I looked like a page boy with a bowl cut from a painting from the middle ages, one of those ones where the artist got the job because he was somebody's nephew, or he was the only one left after the black death went through, not because he was any good. I was in tears walking home. My mother laughed at me being upset. It was the only time I have not wanted to go into school or work because of how I looked, and that includes having a face that looked like it had been kicked by a mule following wisdom teeth extractions, and a stitched lip following surgery.

That's terrible! I would have been able to do a better job.
Did she get your parting wrong?
I seem unable to get a good cut on my side parting at the moment and always end up cutting off long bits when I get home!

LookItsMeAgain · 24/04/2023 15:53

Oh my word - that is awful. I'm so sorry that you've been left with hair that isn't cut properly.

The best thing you can do now is to post your own review of her services. If someone posts up, you add your experience to the discussion. I'd also expect the mobile hairdresser to cover the costs of getting their shitty job fixed by a different hairdresser in a salon (they should be offering to do this rather than you having to ask for it). I know they've offered to 'fix' what they've done but as you're not comfortable with their "skills", you want compensation and they can pay for the hair to be fixed.

LookItsMeAgain · 25/04/2023 13:21

How did your visit to the salon go @Chanel05 ?

wheresmymojo · 25/04/2023 13:36

I can't believe that!

I cut my own hair with kitchen scissors (I kid you not) and it's better than that...

Comedycook · 25/04/2023 13:53

That's horrendous. Did you check that she's actually a hairdresser rather than someone who is just trying to make extra money and isn't properly trained? I mean I could tell people I'm a hairdresser (I'm not) and who would know if I'm lying or not? Did she have any reviews?

Chanel05 · 25/04/2023 14:19

Thanks all.

Salon evened it all up last night but it's extremely short now. It'll take some getting used to.

I asked for a refund and I've been ignored, so I complained to the beauty page I found her on and she's been banned.

Oh My God Wow GIF

No way!!!!

I'd love to know if she was banned because she was shite or if she was banned because she was unqualified (either could be the case here).

When you say it's short, is it the shorter length in the photo or even shorter again?
