How to dress for a rainy weekend away

How do you dress for a rainy weekend away but still look reasonably stylish?

I'm going away on a city break and had some lovely outfits planned, but now it's forecast to rain.

I'm now rethinking my wool coat for a waterproof trench, my swede boots for leather trainers, and my dresses for jeans.

Does anyone have any tips?

If you've got any leather/pleather jeans, leggings or trousers they're pretty waterproof.

No reason you can't wear your dresses with boots and a trench coat, surely? Particularly if you will be doing mostly indoor stuff like galleries and restaurants.

I guess I could wear my dresses but I feel the cold, especially if I have any exposed skin. And I hate being cold!

Are shorts with tights still a look? Like black tailored shorts with 40 or 60 denier tights?
