Vitamin C + SPF to replace Body Shop one

MsMarch · 19/04/2023 12:15

I've been using the Body Shop Vitamin C SPF for years but they've now discontinued it. My skin is very dry and it was very moisturising as well as having the SPF (I usually have SPF in my regular moisturiser then add the standalone SPF when I put on makeup. Also kept tubes of it all over the place - car, handbag etc - so am devastated they've stopped it).

I've tried other SPFs but never liked them as much and I really think the Vitamin C in the Body Shop one is why I liked this one. Does anyone know of anything similar to recommend?

Boots vitamin c brightening day cream seems good so far. It's a little thick to apply but unlike the one I was using previously, doesn't pill over the top of a serum. Once on it feels lovely. I've not tested it in the summer yet. And so far only seen annoyingly tiny tubes. Good for handbags I guess.

@MsMarch did u find anything as good as the body shop vit c SPF 30 ?? I have just finished my last tube of it :( . I have also used it for years and I'm gutted they discontinued it as my skin is prone to breakouts and very dry and the body shop cream was the only thing I could use!!! Any advice appreciated?? X

MsMarch · 09/06/2023 10:36

@Carly05 I haven't actually made any progress because I just haven't been around to take the time. But as the weather improves, I need to prioritise. I'm planning a little trip to Boots in the near future so will update!

I didn't even know Body Shop outlets existed? Do you think they'll be seeing old products?

I popped into Superdrug today. Couldn't spot the L'Oréal one but got a tube of Simple Triple protect moisterizer with spf 30. C9nvenient slim tube and cost £5. It feels good on my skin and I put some make up on after.

I also picked up a tube of nivea q10 spf 50. Proper spf. Feels OK ut more traditionally spf. Will keep in car for kids.

I’m with you OP, I’ve used this for ages and have recommended it to loads of friends and family. Can’t believe they have discontinued it. Assistant in the shop yesterday said there wasn’t anything similar she could suggest. It’s so annoying when a product is discontinued.

MagicFox · 13/06/2023 07:46

Have they discontinued the vitamin e with spf one as well?

MsMarch · 13/06/2023 10:29

Yesterday I was in a big Sainsbury's and they had the l'real one at £10 for members so got it. I DO like the vitamin C vs the non Vitamin C of the other two options I've tried BUT... it's definitely slightly more suncream-like than moisturiser - definitely a bit of an oily sheen when first applied. Having said that, I've put it on twice now and once it's absorbed it does leave my skin feeling quite good and looking appropriately glowy.

I think I'll probably have some of the Simple Triple Protect AND the L'Oreal lying around over this summer. The L'Oreal one being 50SPF is nice and I do like having that in my bag or car on a regular basis but perhaps the Simple one for day to day.

@MagicFox I don't use the vitamin E range so not sure. I'll take a look if you think it's good.

Yes that's discontinued too unfortunately. I haven't found a decent replacement yet.

Right everyone, final update:
I found a Boots Vitamin C moisturiser with 50 SPF. I don't love it as much as the Body Shop one - not least because it doesn't have a scent - but it is pretty good. Definitely NOT what you want if you have oily/combination skin but as the Body Shop one was also not for those people, I'm assuming that my fellow BS lovers have drier skin! Grin. It is very very moisturising @Carly05 that might work for you.

So my current list is:
Boots Vitamin C Moisturiser - very moisturising, high spf. Probably good for under make up daily, kept in my make up bag.

The Simple moisturiser SPF 30 - v light, great for extra hot days when I don't want anything even slightly oily and will keep in handbag. @Jellylover

Nivea face SPF - proper sun cream for beach and kids

L'oreal vitamin C fluid : keeping as backup and in my car.

But I suspect the Boots and Simple ones will be my defaults from now on.

Simple do amazing spf drops so you can mix with a decent moisturiser (I use the aveeno gel one) or press it on top. They're seriously good: cheap, skin looks nice, doesn't have that sticky heavy feeling of spf creams. I often react to to moisturiser with spf in so this has been a game changer for me: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Simple-Protect-Radiance-Invisible-Protection/dp/B085FRHJLS/ref=mpssa113?crid=SHNQRHYDDKYZ&keywords=simple+spf+drops&qid=1687250380&rdc=1&sprefix=simple+spf+drops%2Caps%2C77&sr=8-3

I'm going to resist doing that. It just delays the pain!!!! But I like your commitment.
