What has replaced skinny jeans and a nice top For plus size?

Brilliant thread from OP recently. I wondered if there are any other plus sizes out there wondering what we wear instead of skinny jeans and a top?

I am size 20/22 and apple shapes with very broad shoulders - I’m essentially square 🙄
any ideas on casual outfits would be much appreciated!

I’m mid-size (14) and have been really conscious of how recent fashion doesn’t always give me the most flattering silhouette 😩 I have slimmer legs, a smallish bum, long body, podgy tummy and big boobs and fairly broad shoulders (reading that back I sound like a freak of nature 😅), skinnies with a nice vest top or tucked in looser top was pretty much my uniform for 15 years!

Recently though I’ve been trying to embrace the idea of style and trends over flattering. I love the loose, layered yet tailored look and think it can look really good on mid and plus size (pic of example attached). It’s structured enough to give some shape but also embraces current trends.

I find barrel leg trousers very flattering

I never knew skinny jeans were 'in' for plus size! I clearly didn't get the memo 😁 If you are larger on the top half, I always thought they made people look like a lollipop.

Would a slight boot cut jean suit better to balance out the top vs bottom half?

I (a round size 20) am enjoying:

• 70s-style flared jeans over flatform trainers, with a slim-ish heavy cotton tshirt and fluffy v-neck cardigan.
• cuffed boyfriend jeans with an oversized white or striped shirt (also nice with a knitted vest over but I’ve struggled to find a good one)
• cuffed boyfriend jeans, semi-tucked boxy t-shirt, blazer, sambas
• wide geometric patterned trousers with fine merino knits and heavy loafers
• black slim jeans with floaty / smocky tops that I love and don’t work with wider trousers. I can’t get on board with a whole new wardrobe when things have lots of wear left in them

Thanks all, love the ideas especially @Tangelo. Going to try on some straight leg jeans/perhaps with a cuff. I am fairly tall and think this will work.

For some reason wide leg trousers (even though everyone says try them) don’t look or feel right to me. I bought one pair and gave up, I like baggier tops to hide the tummy, so with wide legs I’m just covered in too much material.

What are those trousers called with a stretch waist and more room going down to a narrower ankle? Are they still around?

🙋‍♀️ fat tummy and short arse here. I follow mama loves leopard I think she's called and she wear a lot of cropped trousers and looks amazing but she's very balanced of figure whereas my tummy actually looks pregnant. Just been at a funeral where an elderly relative looked at me and my tummy then winked !!
