Help me pick a dress for a boat party on the thames!

I have a boat party on the Thames coming up for a friends 30th.

I think I've whittled it down to 3 outfits. I've worn them all before (see photos) but I cannot decide which one to wear. I love the black one but don't know if it's a but smart / office-y?

Opinions please. Also looking to buy a new pair of shoes. I like wearing a heel but it's all day so need to be comfy. Maybe a block heel or wedge?

The white shirt dress I'd wear with maybe a gold belt.

The green and white is a play suit.

The black outfit is a dress that comes just above the knee.

Or if none, send some ideas my way!

The grey/white paisley looking print one. Says Thames boat party to me. Block heel sandal will look good with it.

RoseHenley · 16/04/2023 21:41

Thank you, maybe a white block heal?

The silver ones I have on in the picture I love but they're so uncomfortable so I'll need to buy some more footwear!

Black one

CurlsLDN · 16/04/2023 21:45

I used to work on a tourist boat on the Thames (though not the same sort you’re going on)

  • are heels allowed? Best to double check as not always recommended or allowed on boats
  • it is often breezy as the Thames is wide and if the boat is moving your skirt will too!

my choice would be the play suit as it solves the breeze issue, and to me the black looks a bit like a nautical uniform so you might be mistaken for crew or attempting a themed outfit!

NancyJoan · 16/04/2023 21:46

The print, I think. If it’s really soon, it will be quite cold on the river, you’ll need another layer

Stichintime · 16/04/2023 21:46

Definitely not the one top right. The other 2 look fine.

PrincessofWellies · 16/04/2023 21:48

None of them, you'll freeze.

ShirleyPhallus · 16/04/2023 21:48

The black one looks a bit like you’re auditioning for Below Deck

Sorry to sound absolutely middle aged but the other two are really really short - I think on a boat you’ll get a draught and everyone will get an eye full

Have you got anything else? The white one is ok but a longer, more structured dress would be nicer. Or a skirt and top?

CC4712 · 16/04/2023 21:49

The black does indeed look more business/work wear.

The other 2 are so incredibly short! You have fantastic legs, but I'd be worried about a slight breeze on a boat, or even just walking up the stairs- the people behind you will get an eye full!

Do you have a jumpsuit or a longer, floaty dress? Assuming heels are allowed, I'd wear a low wedge.

CC4712 · 16/04/2023 21:51

@ShirleyPhallus Cross post- almost word for word- we must be the same age 😂

Smallinthesmoke · 16/04/2023 21:54

My experience of boat parties on the Thames-

  • gusty- as others mention! and can get cold esp in the evening
  • when choosing footwear, remember the boat may not move smoothly
  • the toilet is small, down tight steps and often a bit rank

The green and white is a play suit so it's shorts. I didn't think about breeze so I may go with the green one.

Still not 100% sure though I don't know! But I'm definitely not wearing the white one. It's much longer at the back, it goes to knee length at the back but the front may blow up in a gust of wind and I want to try and avoid that!

Maybe a maxi then?? I have a long A-symmetrical leopard print skirt I could wear with a black leotard perhaps.

For PP, as far as I know heels are okay, dress code just says party wear which isn't too helpful! I will double check though.

So, no to the black dress and no to the white dress.. hmmm I'll have a think

I think the pink one shoulder or else the first playsuit. You'll look amazing in anything I think!

eurochick · 16/04/2023 22:35

The pink dress or the multicoloured playsuit.

I agree that the Thames will be breezy and probably also chilly. I'd go for something warmer than any of the options you have posted unless the day you go it's about 30 degrees!

fruitypancake · 16/04/2023 22:38

Number 3

Lindy2 · 16/04/2023 22:39

The multicoloured shorts outfit looks good for a boat party.

Usually the boat has an inside area too which is quite warm. You don't have to be outside, which will be pretty cold.

SophiaElizabethGrace · 16/04/2023 22:41

Love the pink dress but it will be cold and v breezy.

You have an amazing figure and everything looks good. I just think the pink dress is fab. I would definitely have a shrug/shawl.

SophiaElizabethGrace · 16/04/2023 22:42

Normally the inside of the boat is roasting hot but outside is windy and cold.

LIZS · 16/04/2023 22:43

First one

LIZS · 16/04/2023 22:44

None of second batch

RampantIvy · 16/04/2023 22:48

I love the pink dress but, sounding middle aged here - will you be warm enough?
When is the party, and does the boat have a warm indoors area?

Whataretheodds · 16/04/2023 22:49

Not maxi (skanky loos) and not jumpsuit for the same reason.

I'd suggest the pale blue shorts or the multi-colour playsuit. You'll want a jackrt or jumper too. (not a miniskirt because of climbing stairs/moving deck/gusts).

I agree about shoes too - block heel, or wedge or flats.

Beesandhoney123 · 16/04/2023 22:53

What fab legs you have:) glamorous floaty playsuit or halter neck backless elegant jumpsuit? as previous poster suggested and soft ballet pumps/ gladiator sandals? Heels would be a mistake and it will be windy on the water?

Verite1 · 17/04/2023 00:04

You have the most amazing legs! Whatever you wear, you should show them off. The play suit does not look the most flattering round the middle (but that might be the angle of photo) but your legs look knockout. I think the pink dress is the most flattering but is a more dressy look - depends what you want to go for
