Week long training in new job help me plan outfits

I am starting a new job soon and I have a week of training/induction to go to.

I’ll only have a cabin case and my under seat bag.

can you help me pack?

im 5ft3 size 16 and over 45. I don’t wear heels

I was thinking - one black suit as I can wear the trousers and jacket separately? Travel in that. Wear white trainers to travel in.

one additional pair of black trousers

one pair of black wide jeans

5 additional tops that work with black trousers (one night is an evening do so thinking smart tops would do?)

make up and hair stuff including straighteners. liquid allowance thing so I’ll buy shampoo bars and conditioner bars?

one pair of black smart shoes?

it’s in may in Paris so I’m worried about being too warm? Should I put in a pair of linen trousers? Tops will be cotton or linen

I’ve been in the same job for 7 years and I was non-client facing and the dress code was the most relaxed imaginable so I’m nervous.

thanks in advance.

Personally I think that’s too much black.

I’d travel in dark jeans and a nice top

Pack the black suit, one pair of coloured trousers which work with the suit jacket and one dress which works with the suit jacket. A few tops which work with all the bottoms. Some jewellery or accessories which will smarten the look up for the evening.

The hotel should have all the liquid toiletries you need so you can save your allowance for make up and maybe your favourite facial moisturiser.

Thanks!

I don’t really do dresses and the ones I have aren’t really work suitable. What’s the fashion at the moment? 😂😂😂😂 can you tell I’m hopeless

The dress isn’t a deal breaker 😂. Most important thing is to be true to your own style.

Newjobanxious · 16/04/2023 10:58

I do need some jewellery that's a good shout.

I have literally dressed like the slobbiest of slobs for so long I've no idea what to wear 😂😂😂. Meetings in oodies with pjs underneath. No make up. Hair in a messy bun. The French women are going to annihilate me 😂😂😂

I was going to say too much black. I'd go for one black trousers and two of other colours - khaki, cream, brown/orange, navy? light weight, wide leg in case it's warm. Then a mix of blouses, some plain some with prints. A couple of simple knits in neutral colours. Maybe one very simple dress? Some jewelry to dress things up in the evening? Good luck

Save your liquid allowance for your make up and favourites. You can buy mini deodorant etc after you go through security.

What dress code have they given?
Even when we were in suits at the office we could wear casual for training .
I agree travel in jeans.

suzyscat · 16/04/2023 13:04

Get a mitchum stick deodorant to save liquid allowance.

May in Paris should be hot. Will you be able to do laundry whilst you're there?

I think cotton and light linens (fabric weight not colour.) A black suit won't look smart if you're hot, sweaty and uncomfortable.

Newjobanxious · 16/04/2023 15:44

I don't know if I'll be able to do laundry. Maybe linens and cotton are the way to go? With what shoes though?? Sandals?

I will be away with work in May too & I don't quite know what the weather will be like so I'm aiming for 'spring" like wardrobe but with layers.

I'll travel in nice straight leg jeans & a lightweight oatmeal coloured merino jumper. I'll wear pale coloured trainers.

In my bag I'll have black ankle grazer trousers, black wide leg cropped trousers.

2 x silk shirts. 1 x fitted lightweight cashmere cardigan. 1 x fancier shirt for work dinner.

1 x navy cashmere round neck jumper

1 x bottle green leather loafers

1 x ba&sh / veja collaboration trainers

Navy wool socks & black trainer socks

I'll have a classic knee length buff coloured raincoat to put over all the outfits

a scarf

Gold jewellery

I'll be away 4 days so outfits will be;

Day 1
Midwash blue straight leg jeans turned up, navy cashmere round neck jumper, navy socks, trainers. Coat & scarf if needed

Day 2
Slim fit black ankle grazer trousers, patterned silk shirt, black small cashmere cardigan, coat & either trainers or bottle green leather loafers (depending on the activities)

Day 3
Black wide leg cropped trousers, cream silk shirt, loafers or trainers, coat

1 work dinner
Black slim leg cropped trousers, cream ME+EM top, loafers & coat

Travel home
Same as travel out.

Additional things- nice black backpack for laptop & papers etc

Polene taupe leather small cross body bag

Sunglasses.

I travel a lot & always have a cashmere beanie hat & gloves & v compact umbrella in my backpack just in case!
