Underarm hair removal

I’ve always shaved my underarms but no matter what type of razor I use I always have stubble/5-o’clock shadow (for want of a better description).

I tried doing waxing myself years and found that so difficult due to the angle etc; I had them done in a salon for my wedding but had to let the hair grow for weeks beforehand, and I really didn’t like that as I swim regularly.

What budget-friendly options do people use please that don’t leave an obvious ‘stubble’? I’m not able to pay £££ for a Lumea machine etc.

Very would be a good option and it’s in the pound shops so not pricey

Outandup · 13/04/2023 09:00

@Slimjimtobe do you mean Veet cream?

Forgot to say I used to have an electric epilator and I found it ridiculously painful.

I use an epilator, £54.99 from Amazon but cheaper than buying plastic razors and shaving gel in the log term.

I’d look at laser. If you have a laser clinic near by, they currently have laser half price offers. So for example, a Brazilian and underarm treatment would be £28. So just underarms would be even cheaper.
4 or 5 sessions, and you’d be hair free.

Slimjimtobe · 13/04/2023 09:28

Yes sorry veet

Wishona · 13/04/2023 09:34

If you do wax you could probably go every 3.5 weeks.

StarlightLady · 13/04/2023 10:58

Try Veet (but do not spot test first) plus a little "coaxing' with a razor with new blade.

cannaethink · 13/04/2023 11:29

I’ve epilated my armpits for years so now just have a few pale hairs that grow. The first few times were very painful but it gets easier! I only feel a mild popping sensation now.
Or laser. I paid £250 for 10 sessions on my bikini line.
I used veet on my bikini line but didn’t find it lasted much longer than shaving.

Watch out for laser on bikini line - it’s unimaginably painful. I got a ‘Hollywood’ by laser and had to get very drunk beforehand just to get through each session.

The worst part is even after 6 sessions I am not hair-free (maybe like a 30% reduction?), so I need to go back for more. 😭

Laser works best on non hormonal areas apparently. So legs and arms usually become hair-free pretty quickly. I personally don't know anybody who has had much success with their bikini line. It is a small area and probably not worth the pain

DramaAlpaca · 13/04/2023 12:38

Epilator. I've been doing it that way for so many years that it doesn't hurt at all and most of the hair has given up trying to grow back now.

When you start off, a couple of paracetamol an hour before will help. Plus a glass or two of wine if necessary.

newtb · 13/04/2023 12:43

Have you tried one of the cheapo orange/white bic type razors? They seem to have much sharper blades than the venus ones for women. I've always used soap, never bothered with gel. I find they leave a really smooth finish.

AnnaMagnani · 13/04/2023 12:43

I had an amazing response for underarm laser.

Legs less so but still good.

Face - total waste of time and money

Sudeko · 13/04/2023 12:47

Has anybody found a good long-term solution for the bikini line?

AnnaMagnani · 13/04/2023 12:52

I didn't bother with bikini line but suspect it would have been as good as underarm

I did have the ideal skin and hair types for laser of v pale skin and dark hair.

I’m 8 sessions in on a full Brazilian bikini laser. I don’t find it that painful at all! It’s stings a bit but it’s over so fast.
I’m pleased with my results so far, and still have two sessions to go.

@Sudeko - I have a full Hollywood wax every month. I get a bit bored with the regrowth in between but is is much thinner and softer and it works for me.

Anything with soft regrowth is definitely good down there!

Namechangingagain111 · 13/04/2023 18:54

I've been using epilators since they first came out (late 1980s?) and have hardly any underarm hairs and no pain (I suspect all the nerves under my arm are dead by now !)

Newnamenewname109870 · 13/04/2023 18:59

How do people wax? I completely agree I don’t like being really hairy beforehand.

Iliketeaagain · 13/04/2023 19:06

I get waxed - found someone who runs a salon from home near my house and it's £12 a go and takes about 10 mins max. I started every 2 weeks, but now every 4 as it's slowed the growth down so much - by the start of week 4, I can see a little bit, but not much.

I tried epilating myself, but it was like torture and couldn't do it.

SummerSazz · 13/04/2023 19:08

I use an electric epilator everywhere that needs it. Hairs now don't really bother growing back...

JamMakingWannaBe · 13/04/2023 19:22

Wet and dry epilator in the shower with King of Shaves gel for some lubrication.
Don't have the hair too long.
It hurts like fuck the first time but I've been doing it for years now and just whip round both arms once a week.
