Why does my neck look like a plucked chicken and what can I do about it?

It started as two patches either side of my neck (my students thought I'd got love bites) but the skin is now like this over a larger area, only on the sides in line with my ears. I have no clinical symptoms (not itchy, dry or flaky) , it seems purely cosmetic hence posting in S & B. I did go to the GP and they said it was sebhorric dermatitis and gave me a steroid cream which did nothing. Can anyone else recommend something or shed any light please. Picture attached.

I think it's Poikiloderma, a type of sun damage.

Ugh I think you're right! Thank you. At least I know what it is. I am very fair skinned so it makes sense.

Start using a retinol/retinal in the evening, if you don't already, and a vitamin c serum in the morning, followed by spf 50 - every day! That should stop it getting worse and improve its appearance.
